American Airlines Flight Collides With Military Helicopter Near DC Airport In Likely Mass-Casualty Event

All flights were halted at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in Washington, D.C.  on Wednesday after a plane crashed in the Potomac River following a collision with a helicopter.

Following the crash, the airport halted all takeoffs and landings as emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a statement identifying the aircraft and helicopter.

“A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to runway 33 … around 9 p.m. local time. PSA was operating as Flight 5342 for American Airlines. It departed from Wichita, Kansas.”

Speaking on Fox News, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the plane was involved in a collision with a “military helicopter.”

The DC Fire and EMS Department posted on X: “Confirmed small aircraft down in Potomac River vicinity Reagan National Airport. Fireboats on scene.”

A joint statement from Metropolitan Police Department, DC Fire, and EMS shortly after news broke of the crash confirmed that a search and rescue operation was underway in the Potomac River, but there was “no confirmed information on casualties…”

Video from the incident showed a large presence of first responders on scene.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
