Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is making a desperate last-ditch effort to stave off encroaching terrorist rebels — who increasing look like they will force him out of power — by offering to switch alliances and align himself with the West.
Bloomberg News reported that Assad has made “indirect diplomatic overtures to the US and President-elect Donald Trump” to save his dictatorship.
The deals that he is seeking apparently would allow him to stay in power or have safe passage into exile if need be.
The report said:
One offer Assad made to the US via the United Arab Emirates is for Syria to cut all involvement with Iran-backed militant groups, such as Hezbollah, if Western powers wield influence to stem the fighting, the people said.
Another initiative saw Assad dispatch a senior Christian leader to meet Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to relay what he sees as an existential threat to Syria’s Christian minority if Islamist rebels prevail, according to other people familiar with the plan. The intention was that Orban, a Trump ally, would convey this danger to the incoming US president, they said.
Assad has ordered his remaining troops, estimated to be as many as 40,000, to fall back and defend Damascus, the country’s capital.

The terrorist’s offensive campaign started a little over a week ago and has so far netted them Aleppo in northern Syria and now Hama and Homs as they make their way south toward Damascus.
Trump said in a statement that the U.S. should not intervene at all and let the various terrorist groups fight amongst each other and Russian and Iranian forces are forced to withdraw.
“Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT,” Trump said. “THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!”
Trump acknowledged that the terrorist rebels were on the outskirts of Damascus and preparing to take out Assad as it appeared Russia, Iran, and Iran’s terrorist proxy groups would be unable to save his grip on power.
“Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years,” he continued. “This is where former President Obama refused to honor his commitment of protecting the RED LINE IN THE SAND, and all hell broke out, with Russia stepping in.”
