WA State Proposes Trans Division, Preventing Males From Competing Against Women

Washington State has proposed a transgender division for athletes to compete in that will prevent males from competing against women in female sports.

In a proposal from the governing body for high school sports in the state, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) has suggested creating an open division for transgender athletes in order to ensure a “level playing field” for girls in female sports, KXLY reported.

The WIAA encourages participation for all students, regardless of their gender identity or expression. Further, most local, state, and federal rules and regulations require schools to provide transgender and other gender-diverse student-athletes with equal opportunities to participate in athletics,” the proposal read in part.

“However, in order to maintain fair and equitable competition, participation in girls’ sports and girls’ divisions of sports is restricted to students who were assigned female at birth,” it added. “The purpose of this policy is to offer clarity with respect to the participation of trans and gender-diverse student-athletes. Additionally, this policy encourages a culture in which student- athletes can compete in a safe and supportive environment, free of discrimination.”

Several schools in the state have already shown their support for the proposals that will be discussed and decided during the virtual Winter Coalition on January 27.

The WIAA currently allows trans-identifying students to compete on the team of the opposite sex, as previously reported.

“The WIAA encourages participation for all students regardless of their gender identity or expression,” the WIAA handbook reads.

The WIAA also does not require high school athletes to take cross-sex hormones or puberty blockers to play on the team of the opposite sex.

The proposal comes months after a male won a title in the girl’s division of Washington State Track & Field Meet, stealing a spot for a female on the podium and a chance for the girl to advance her game by scoring a possible scholarship to get into college, OutKick noted.

Tennis legend and outspoken advocate for women’s sports, Martina Navratilova, reacted to the proposal and wrote on X “Perfect!!!”

Another person wrote, “HUGE NEWS. The house of cards is crashing down. Washington state’s @wiaawa just announced two new policies that would require high school boys-pretending-to-be-girls (‘transgender’ athletes) to compete in a proposed new ‘transgender students’ division.”

“Girls’ sports, like volleyball, soccer, basketball and wrestling would be limited to girls,” the post added. “This will have a huge rippling effect on California and @CIFState as our state’s policies for ‘gender inclusivity’ in high school sports are modeled on the WIAA regs.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
