Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton was in the right place at the right time when he saved a young fan from falling head first out of the stands after the game on Sunday as the team was headed to the locker room in Carolina.
In a video that surfaced on X, we see the back of a young fan’s jersey as he’s leaning up against the railing, yelling Wharton’s name before the little guy’s feet slip out from under him and he flips right out of the stands headed to the ground head first.
“I would like to reach out to him, get him out to a game.”

With security standing by, Wharton sees the fan falling and reaches out to grab the kid before the child falls to the ground and ends up in the hospital or worse. The next shot is Wharton giving the child a boost back up into the stands.
On Tuesday, Wharton appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and said that it was just “natural reaction” when he saved the kid from falling.
“Usually when I leave the game, I try to throw my glove into the crowd,” Wharton said. “And I think I heard my name a little bit and I see him coming down. It was two security guards right there.”
“I don’t think they realized what I was doing,” he added, noting that he was able to grab the child by the back of his jersey to stop him from falling.

He then said that he hasn’t met the child yet, but he would like to.
“I would like to reach out to him, get him out to a game,” Wharton said. “And be able to reflect with him a little bit more. If I could.”
Over on social media, there is one post after another labeling Wharton a “real-life hero” and people wishing he was on the X platform so they could thank him. It doesn’t appear, at the time of this publication, that the Chiefs player has an account on the site.
“Kansas City Chiefs’ Tershawn Wharton saves the life of a boy who falls headfirst over the railing towards the field,” one person wrote. “The kid was waving in excitement and took the plunge. Amazing lifesaving moment by Wharton!”
Another added, “SAVIOR: Kansas City Chiefs DE Tershawn Wharton rescued a young Chiefs fan from injuring himself after falling over the side of the stands in Carolina. Respect to Wharton for being aware enough & instinctively ready to save him!”
While a third wrote, “Mr. Tershawn Wharton of the @Chiefs needs an @X account simply so people can say thank you, and well done. Time to put him in receiver corps, @PatrickMahomes?”
Wharton signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2020, and has been part of the two Super Bowls the team won in the 2022 and 2023 season.
