Almost Half Of Democrats Say Biden Not Mentally Fit To Be President, Poll Finds

Almost half of Democrats say that incumbent President Joe Biden is not mentally fit to serve as President of the United States, a new poll has found.

The poll, performed by NORC at the University of Chicago and the Associated Press, found that Democrats are increasingly likely to be concerned about Biden’s mental fitness.

When asked whether or not Biden “has the mental capability to serve effectively as president,” only 27 percent of Democrats say that they are “extremely confident” that Biden is fit. Another 25 percent of Democrats said that they are “somewhat confident” in Biden’s mental fitness, while another 48 percent said that they are “not very” confident or “not at all confident” in Biden’s mental fitness.

The poll comes after the first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Biden, with pundits from across the political spectrum widely agreeing that the event was a disaster for the Democrat incumbent.

The poll numbers mark a drastic shift from late February, when 32 percent of Democrats said that they did not have confidence in the Democrat incumbent’s mental fitness. The share of those who say that they are extremely confident has declined 13 percent since February, when it sat at 40 percent.

The poll also found that the majority of Democrats, 65 percent, say that Biden should withdraw from the race to make way for a new nominee. Among the wider American population from all political backgrounds, 70 percent say that Biden should withdraw. The number is even higher among Independents, with 77 percent indicating that they believe the Democrat incumbent should withdraw from the race.

The public opinion survey comes just as Biden has begun to change his tune on the possibility of dropping out of the race for the presidency. Biden said in an interview released on Wednesday that he would consider dropping out of the race if a doctor told him he had a “medical condition.”

The statement comes as a growing number of Democrats, now including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), are calling on the president to drop out and make way for a new nominee.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
