Barrasso: ‘Strings Attached’ To Any U.S. Money Given To California After Democrats Mismanaged Fires

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY) said during an interview over the weekend that if Congress approves any U.S. taxpayer money to help aid in the recovery of the historic fires in California that it will come with “strings attached” because of how poorly Democrats have mismanaged the fires.

Barrasso made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” with Margaret Brennan as the fires continue to burn in Southern California where they have caused tens of billions of dollars in damage and killed more than a dozen people.

“When you see what’s being shown on television, in addition to the tragedy on the ground, you’re also seeing gross mismanagement in California by elected officials, and it’s heartbreaking to hear the fire chief say that they’ve diverted all of this money away from the fire department to be used for social programs when they were already stretched too thin,” he said. “So yes, I expect there’s going to be hearings, there’s going to be requests of Congress.”

He said that there “can’t be a blank check on this, however, because people want to make sure that as rebuilding occurs, as things go on in California, they have to be resilient, so that these sorts of things can’t happen again.”

“And the policies of the liberal administration out there, I believe have made these fires worse,” he added.

Brennan, a left-wing partisan, then asked: “Do you expect, though, that Congress and Republicans will still help these Americans in need, even if they don’t like their local politics in the party?”

“I expect that there will be strings attached to money that is ultimately approved, and it has to do with being ready the next time, because this was a gross failure this time,” Barrasso responded.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
