Chelsea Handler Insists She’s A ‘Threat’ To Straight Men

Comedian Chelsea Handler said she’s gotten backlash from straight men because they’re “threatened” by her.

The 49-year-old late-night talk show host made the comments during a conversation with Kelly Ripa on her “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast. The pair discussed Handler’s decision not to have children, which she’s spoken about in the past, and some of the reactions she’s gotten for glorifying that choice.

“I just have this sense of freedom in my life that I don’t feel enough women celebrate,” Handler told Ripa.

She continued, “So when I started celebrating it and getting the feedback from so many women who feel the same way, and then the feedback from all these idiot men saying I’m not really happy and shame on me because I’m spreading terrible messaging to women, that just obviously gave me even more of a motivation to do it.”

Ripa asked the comedian why she thought critics brought up objections to her lifestyle, prompting Chandler to reply, “I’m a threat.”

“I’m a threat to a lot of straight men who don’t have enough self-confidence,” she added. “You shouldn’t find it threatening, you should find it empowering that I’m spreading this message to other women; if you want to have a baby, for sure get one, but if you don’t want to have a baby that’s valid, too.”

Handler insisted, “Your value is not dependent on whether or not you’re married and your value is not dependent on whether you procreate. I want to spread joy and positivity and I want women to feel valued. My purpose is to embolden and lift up women. I’m not here for men, that’s not my problem.”

In February 2023, Handler posted a satirical video on TikTok that went viral. Her “Day In the Life of A Childless Woman” begins with Handler explaining, “I wake up at 6 AM. I remember that I have no kids to take to school, so I take an edible, masturbate, and go back to sleep.”

Each segment of the video got more outlandish, with the comedian saying she gets up at 12:30 PM to “get ready for a busy day of doing whatever the f*** I feel like.”

“I put on my most impractical and stylish shoes since I won’t be chasing a child around the grocery store,” Handler continued, describing how she heads to her “fave spot in Paris to grab a croissant” and enjoys a peaceful time on the plane because she has “no screaming kids.”

The video inspired many reactions online, with most viewers concluding that even though it was a joke, the overall feeling was “sad.”

“Chelsea Handler acts like she wouldn’t be able to do all the traveling and relaxing she does if she had kids. Said she gets to wear heels because she’s not ‘chasing a kid around a grocery store.’ Girl, you are 47. Your kids could be graduated from college and married by now,” conservative podcast host Allie Beth Stuckey wrote at the time.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
