Details Emerge About Harris VP Announcement

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to decide on her running mate within the next 24 hours and release a video announcement on Tuesday, sources familiar with the process told POLITICO.

The outlet reported that Harris interviewed Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz at the vice president’s Washington residence on Sunday. Those three contenders are widely viewed as the leading candidates to be selected as Harris’ running mate, but other Democrats, including Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker are also still in the mix, and sources said Harris could potentially meet with them virtually on Monday.

Harris has been briefed on the VP candidates by a vetting team led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, according to POLITICO. It remains unknown how Harris will announce her pick, with some sources predicting it could be similar to Biden’s 2020 video introducing Harris. Harris secured the Democratic presidential nomination last week and is slated to appear with her running mate for the first time at a Philadelphia rally on Tuesday.

Harris took over the spot of presumptive Democratic nominee after Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed his vice president. Harris won the support of the Democratic Party’s elite to take Biden’s place atop the 2024 ticket.

Since Biden dropped out, Harris has yet to hold a press conference or answer questions from the media. Instead, she has remained in front of a teleprompter at multiple campaign rallies, where the vice president has sought to shore up support in the battleground states of Wisconsin and Georgia.

After the Philadelphia rally, Harris and her running mate are expected to hit the campaign trail with stops in Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. Of those seven battleground states, Biden took six of them — all but North Carolina — in his 2020 matchup against Trump.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
