DNC Live Blog, Night Four: Democrats REALLY Want To Talk About Trump — They Just Don’t Want To Tell The Truth

Kamala Harris spokesman Ian Sams offered a preview of her speech, saying that she planned to say,”With this election, our nation has a precious, fleeting opportunity to move past the bitterness, cynicism, and divisive battles of the past.”

But as Steve Guest pointed out, “REMINDER: Democrats have occupied the Oval Office 12 of the last 16 years. Kamala Harris has been VP for nearly 4 years. Democrats like Ian Sams are trying to insult your intelligence. Doubling down on failed Democrat politicians won’t result in a better life.”

Former Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger joined in the attack on former President Trump, announcing as he stepped up to the microphone that probably no one had predicted he would show up there.

“Adam Kinzinger says nobody expected to see him at the DNC lol,” Saagar Enjeti posted. “I think literally everyone did.”

Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) took the stage and showered Vice President Kamala Harris with praise. What if there was a crisis, she mused, and “that man from Mar-a-largo” was in charge?

“Gretchen Whitmer just referred to a woman who hasn’t take a SINGLE QUESTION from the press as ‘tough, tested, and a total badass.’ We are living in the death of shame kids,” Jimmy Failla added.

As the DNC speakers continued to drum the importance of stopping Trump from implementing the policies outlined in Project 2025 — which Trump has repeatedly disavowed — Marc Thiessen noted that Democrats refuse to believe Trump when he says he has no interest in Project 2025 but never questioned Kamala Harris’ sincerity when she flipped on literally everything she stood for in 2019.

While speaker after speaker attacked former President Donald Trump from the DNC stage – most of them relying on lies and false narratives — the Trump campaign noted that not a single person mentioned the fact that their political opponent was literally shot in the head just six weeks earlier.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden added their submission to the rapidly-growing collection of cringey phone calls, and although they shared a still photo rather than a video, the vibe was still there.

“Jill and I just spoke to @KamalaHarris,” Biden posted. “We can’t wait to watch her accept this historic nomination. Kamala and Tim will inspire a generation and lead us into the future.”

CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings noted the bizarre “whiplash” of going from speakers bashing billionaires to speakers who were, in fact, billionaires themselves.

“Billionaire whiplash at the DNC … Bernie (bad!), Pritzker (good!), Michelle Obama (bad!), Oprah (good!), Elizabeth Warren (bad!). Snip snap snip snap snip snap!” he posted.

The Daily Wire’s Kassy Akiva caught up with Vivek Ramaswamy, who was mobbed and chased away from an anti-Israel protest.

Actor and comedian DL Hughley stepped up and started off by claiming that he understood why former President Trump did not want to debate Kamala Harris because he had been married to a black woman for years and had never won a single debate. The only problem with his joke? Trump asked for three debates. It was Harris who said she would only commit to one and discuss one more.

The emcee for the evening on Thursday was “Scandal” star Kerry Washington, who as Todd Starnes noted, was “made famous by her portrayal of a political operative who slept her way to the top.”

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) took the stage to complain about the fact that basic necessities were often unaffordable for working families — but then claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris, who cast the deciding vote on the Inflation Reduction Act that experts say is responsible for skyrocketing prices, would somehow fix the problem she helped to create.

On CNN, David Urban responded to the fact that Randi Weingarten — president of the American Federation of Teachers — was speaking at the DNC after sparing no expense to keep kids out of school during the COVID pandemic.

“The one person They tried to bury, Randi Weingarten from AFT, right? Let me just tell you, because of this. Study by Education Week — right: ‘The harm of school closures could last a lifetime, new research shows.’ There are plenty of parents in this arena, watching at home all over America that remember, during the pandemic, the Randi Weingarten and the teachers union kept kids home, wanted to keep kids home forever, and that’s permanently affected and you know will suffered a lot? Kids at the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum suffered the greatest. So, I’m surprised that they’re honoring her, but they’re kind of burying her.”

After rumors swirled regarding a gap in the DNC’s Thursday evening schedule — and people guessed that perhaps pop star Taylor Swift might make a surprise appearance — it was finally revealed that Beyonce would perform for attendees at the convention.

“BREAKING: Beyoncé is who they picked to have at the DNC tonight. While millions suffer in the city of Chicago because of rampant crime, the Democrat Party will be partying with Beyoncé,” Ryan Fournier posted. “Let them eat cake.”

One of the earliest speakers on night four called on everyone present to “stand together, support sexual assault survivors, believe them, and hold perpetrators accountable.” As Greg Price noted, the same audience gave a standing ovation to former President Bill Clinton just one day earlier.

Thursday marks the final night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), which to the casual observer probably looked more like a “joyful” abortion rally wrapped in a pro-Hamas protest and set to a hip-hop soundtrack.

What’s happening?

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to wrap up the evening — and the entire convention — by officially accepting the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nomination. But before that happens, another slate of guest speakers, anti-Israel protests, and free abortions are still on tap for the DNC in its final hours.

Abortion advocate and performer Pink — and The Chicks — are set to deliver musical performances as well. Actress Kerry Washington will emcee.

Who’s speaking?

In addition to Harris, the list of speakers on Thursday as set to include Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA), Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), as well as Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA), former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ).

Several anti-gun activists and former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) are also scheduled to speak.

What are people saying about it?

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) accidentally said the quiet part out loud — namely that the Democratic Party is relying wholly on “vibes” rather than any real substance as they approach the 2024 election with Harris at the top of the ticket.

“When you’re listening to, I think, one of the greatest speeches you’re going to hear this election season, tonight I want you all to remember what Maya Angelou says: ‘People often forget what you say, but they’re never going to forget how you made them feel,'” he said.

CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings called the Democrats out for failing to present any real substance, saying of their night three speeches, “Nobody tonight said a damn thing!” He then argued that for Harris to move the needle with voters, she would have to deliver something more concrete than, “Hey, she’s got the right vibe — so let’s just vote for it and see what happens.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
