DNC Live Blog, Night Three: Walz Accepts VP Nomination, But Will He Steal Valor (Again)?

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz officially accepted the Democratic vice presidential nomination on Wednesday evening at the Democratic National Convention.

While Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz bragged about his accomplishments — claiming that Minnesota followed the golden rule of “mind your own damn business” — critics pointed out in real time that he had instituted a “snitch line” for neighbors to rat each other out for violating COVID restrictions.

Walz’s former football players made an appearance on the DNC stage as well:

Just before Governor Tim Walz stepped up to officially accept the Democratic Party’s vice presidential nomination, Vice President Kamala Harris posted video of another scripted phone call between the running mates — this time showing her wishing him good luck on his speech.

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) relied on a handful of dad-jokes to deliver her speech praising Governor Tim Walz (D-MN). “A former football coach knows how to level the playing field, and a former public school teacher knows how to school the likes of JD Vance.”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg claimed that former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance have run a campaign of “darkness” and promoted the campaign of “joy” that Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz were bringing.

When Oprah Winfrey began her speech, former President Donald Trump shared a photo of a letter she sent him 24 years earlier in January of 2000 — the letter in which she told Trump it was a pity that they weren’t “running for office” together.

Winfrey also took a pot shot at Senator JD Vance (R-OH) during her remarks: “When a house is on fire, we don’t ask about the homeowner’s race or religion. We don’t wonder who their partner is or how they voted. No, we just try to do the best we can to save them. And if the place happens to belong to a childless cat lady — well, we try to get that cat out, too.”

Governor Josh Shapiro took the stage after some confusion as to whether or not he had been bumped from the evening’s program, and he used his time to claim that Democrats — who locked Americans out of schools and inside their homes during the COVID pandemic — were the party of “real freedom.” “Real freedom,” he explained, was making sure Republicans could not keep pornography out of the hands of kindergarteners.

“Crazy Nancy claims Comrade Kamala and Crooked Joe had ‘one of the most successful presidencies of modern times,'” the Trump War Room posted. “‘Successful’ = economic devastation, wide open borders, the brink of World War III, and so much more.”

Former President Bill Clinton cracked a joke about being as old as former President Donald Trump before he pivoted to praise President Joe Biden, claiming that he had sacrificed his own ambition for the good of the country.

“Bill Clinton on Biden — ‘He voluntarily gave up political power,'” Tony Katz posted. “Being threatened by Pelosi and Obama and the Democratic Party is not voluntarily.”

Singer James Taylor responded to his ouster on Monday night — when scheduling led to his performance being bumped from the lineup and President Joe Biden’s speech being bumped to well past his bedtime — by delivering an updated version of the song he was supposed to sing.

“I’ll set fires and I’ll bring pain/I’ll bend your limbs in ways that limbs should never bend/Create traumas your mind cannot comprehend,” he sang.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries referenced the Constitution before repeating a section of the Pledge of Allegiance, praised Biden, lied about January 6th, and said that he only had one message for former President Donald Trump: “Bro, we broke up with you for a reason.”

Radio host Tony Katz responded to Jeffries, saying, “Rep. Hakeem Jeffries just re-enacted a book report from a 7th grader who never read the book.”

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel lashed out at Republicans over provisions from Project 2025 — which Trump has repeatedly said was not his platform — and suggested that someone might move to roll back protections for LGBTQ Americans, particularly their ability to marry.

“I’ve got a message for the Republicans and the Justices of the United States Supreme Court, you can pry this wedding band from my cold, dead, gay hand,” she shouted.

Biden Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo appears to believe the recent downward revision — which says that nearly a million of the jobs the Biden administration claims to have “created” don’t actually exist — was fabricated by former President Donald Trump. Upon learning that it was the Bureau of Labor Statistics, her response was simply, “I’m not familiar with that.”

Meanwhile, on the streets of Chicago, anti-Israel protesters continued to march.

“Democrat Rep. Veronica Escobar says she met Kamala ‘when she visited El Paso,'” the Trump War Room said. “That quick trip was Border Czar Kamala’s ONE AND ONLY VISIT to the border during her term — and it was 1,153 days ago.”

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) took the stage, claiming, “For 20 years, Kamala Harris has been tough as nails when it comes to securing our border.”

This is the lie of the year,” the Trump War Room account posted. “Border Czar Kamala Harris has presided over the worst invasion of illegal aliens on record — and wants to give them MASS AMNESTY, free health care, free college, and more. Kamala wants to make tens of millions of illegals into full-fledged voting citizens. Because of her negligence, American citizens are being raped and murdered by illegals with NO RIGHT to be here.”

Outside the venue, protesters began their third straight day of antagonizing law enforcement and attempting to breach the fences that were put in place to protect rally-goers from the anti-Israel crowd.

Early on Wednesday evening, Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg — the parents of Israeli-American Hamas hostage Hersch Goldberg Polin — took the stage. The crowd rose to their feet, chanting, “Bring them home.”

Night three of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) kicks off Wednesday, and Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) will close out the night with his acceptance of the vice presidential nomination. The only question is whether or not he can get through his speech — said to focus on “his lifetime of service and his commitment to safeguarding the freedoms that we all hold dear” — without adding another whopper to his growing list of fabrications.

What’s happening?

Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) is expected to accept the Democratic Party’s nomination for vice president, but before that happens, the parade of speakers is set to include former President Bill Clinton and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

John Legend is expected to perform a tribute to Prince on Wednesday as well.

According the Alex Hornbrook, executive director of the Democratic National Convention Committee, the evening will highlight “everyday Americans whose freedoms and livelihoods hinge on this election.”

Who’s speaking?

Also on tap for Wednesday  — in addition to Clinton, Buttigieg, and Walz, are House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD), Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV).

What are people saying about it?

Undercover journalist James O’Keefe teased a coming video after spending two days at the DNC in disguise.

Someone accidentally said the quiet part out loud during a breakout session with the Congressional Black Caucus: “We got 70 days to act right… After 70 days, we can go back to acting crazy.”

Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro summed up speeches from former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Governor J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) thusly: “The entire DNC last night was built on the premise that living your entire life as a politician paid by the taxpayers, confiscating the wealth of others, and then making bank off said politics is legitimate — and that private wealth isn’t.”

CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings said that there was still one glaring question that no one seemed prepared to answer: If Democrats controlled the White House for 12 of the last 16 years, how is Trump responsible for everything that’s wrong — and why should anyone believe that the person who is currently vice president and not solving problems will suddenly fix those same problems if elected president?

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
