Five-time Grammy Award winner Elton John revealed that he lost partial vision in one of his eyes after getting an infection.
The 77-year-old singer provided fans with an update on Instagram. “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” John wrote.
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he continued. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”
“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery so far,” the post concluded.
Last summer, the recording artist was hospitalized after falling at his villa in Nice, France, as The Daily Wire previously reported. He was spending time there after concluding his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour.
“I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. Fifty-two years of pure joy playing music. How lucky am I to play music?” the singer said at the conclusion of his last show in Stockholm, Sweden, in July 2023.
“But, ya know, I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the albums, the CDs, the cassettes, but more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows, and you know how I love to play live.”
John played “Your Song” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” at the end of his final show.
He told Entertainment Weekly he was still “trying to process” that he was no longer touring after more than five decades.
“I don’t think it will sink in for a while yet that I’ve finally finished touring,” John said at the time. “I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss the fans and how much their support has humbled me — it will stay with me forever.”
