Former ‘View’ Host Slams Joy Behar For Comments About Carrie Underwood Playing Trump’s Inauguration

Joy Behar is being criticized for her comments about country singer Carrie Underwood performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration next week.

On Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” the co-host expressed her thoughts on the news, saying, “I would not normalize [Trump]. [Underwood] says, ‘I love our country.’ How do you love our country and support and normalize somebody who was a convicted felon who really wants to destroy the country in my opinion? I don’t understand how you say you love your country at the same time as you normalize this convicted felon.”

Behar later said, “I would not be the person to say, ‘Don’t do it,’ because I believe in free speech and everything about it. I personally would not do it. No one’s asked me, but that’s another story.”

Former co-host of “The View” Elisabeth Hasselbeck called out Behar for her reaction to Underwood singing at the inauguration.

“That @TheView @JoyVBehar needs to simmer down off my friend,” Hasselbeck posted on X. Hasselbeck later appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show Tuesday night to explain her thoughts on the drama.

Hasselbeck said “The View” doesn’t include “anyone there who has a lick of sense on most days,” per Entertainment Weekly

She also said Behar’s comments were “nothing more than selfish personal publicity-gaining right now” and claimed she “wants to attach her name to Carrie Underwood’s name so that she maintains relevance because she knows the ship is sinking.”

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg also defended Underwood during Tuesday’s episode of “The View.” She said, “I stand behind her. If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform someplace, I believe they have the same right. So I have to support (her). It doesn’t mean I’m particularly interested in watching. I won’t be watching. But that’s me.”

Underwood has been facing a ton of backlash from fans following the announcement that she is slated to sing “America the Beautiful” during the inauguration ceremony on Monday.

The “American Idol” winner later issued a statement, saying, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.”

Underwood added, “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
