Frankie Muniz Says His ‘Malcolm In The Middle’ Character Was ‘The Worst’ In The Show

Malcolm in the Middle” actor Frankie Muniz says he was not a fan of the character that made him a household name.

The 39-year-old former child star made the remarks while speaking with People about the upcoming reboot. Muniz said he sat down and watched all the episodes of the show, which led him to the conclusion that child prodigy Malcolm was no good.

“[My wife] looked at me at the very end and she goes, ‘You weren’t acting at all. You are literally Malcolm,’” he told the outlet. “And I’m like, ‘I don’t know how to take that because Malcolm sucked.’ He was the worst character on that show!”

The actor said even though he doesn’t care for Malcolm, he’s still a big fan of the series as a whole. And is “obviously so thrilled” for the reboot.

“We started talking about [a reboot] literally 10 years ago — me and [costar] Bryan Cranston — and slowly been working at it and it’s finally a reality,” Muniz told People. “So I’m really excited. I had to do some chemistry reads. I can’t tell you with what characters, but new characters that would be on the show. And it was so weird to go back and be with Linwood Boomer, the creator, and Ken Kwapis, the director, and be back in that mindset.”

“Oddly, it was right at home,” he added.

The sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” premiered in January 2000, and ended in May 2006, after seven seasons and 151 episodes. The show was massively popular among audiences and critics, winning a Peabody Award, seven Emmy Awards, one Grammy Award, and earning seven Golden Globe nominations while it was on the air.

The series focused on a dysfunctional family trying to make it work and included Malcolm frequently making comments about their efforts being futile.

The limited, four episode revival will follow Malcolm and his daughter as his parents ask for him to attend their 40th wedding anniversary party.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
