Hall Of Famer Randy Moss Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss has finally revealed that the health issue he’s been battling is cancer and that he underwent major surgery to deal with the cancerous mass.

In an Instagram Live on Friday, Moss labeled himself a “cancer survivor,” after undergoing surgery for a mass discovered in his bile duct, between the liver and pancreas.

“Been in the hospital for six days. I just got out today — thank God!” Moss said. “Man the prayer warriors. I felt all the prayers coming through there. … You prayer warriors, all my teammates. I’ve seen everything you guys tweeted at me. All the prayers. All the well-wishes.”

“I did have cancer,” he added. “They found it in the bile duct, right in between the pancreas and the liver. So my doctors … they went in, I had a six-hour surgery. Dr. Martini, you’re the man, I had a Whipple procedure. I am forever grateful.”

“I didn’t think I would ever be in a position like this, as healthy as I thought I was,” Moss continued. “Y’all best believe your boy came through.”

He also promised to get back out with his “Sunday NFL Countdown” crew — as soon as he can, after ESPN announced last week that Moss was taking an extended leave from his analyst role on the show to deal with some kind of health battle.

“Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss will step away from ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’ for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge,” a statement from ESPN read.

“He [Moss] briefly addressed the matter at the start of the show on Dec. 1,” it added. “For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, consistently elevating Countdown with his insight and passion. He has ESPN’s full support, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”

Days earlier, the former Minnesota Vikings standout asked fans to pray for him and his family as he was dealing with a health issue, without explaining further.

“Throughout the week of the holidays, your boy has been battling something internal,” Moss said in a video he shared on Instagram.

“I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put their blessing hands on me and my family through these hard times,” he added. “I’m battling something, man, and it’s something internal. Your boy is going to get through it. I got a great team of doctors and I got a great family around me.”

His post also encouraged his male followers to get their health “checkups” and mentioned to get their “blood work done.” He closed out the video saying, “We will work through it, alright. God Bless you all. Thanks for the prayers…”

Moss played in the NFL for 14 seasons as part of the Vikings, formerly Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers, ESPN noted. During his career, he had 156 touchdowns and 982 career catches for 15,292 yards.

He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
