Illegal Immigrant Shoots Texas Police Officer After Being Released By Border Patrol: Report

A Texas police officer was shot multiple times on Sunday during a shootout with a 25-year-old Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. illegally and had been released by Border Patrol, Fox News reported.

The shootout began after officers from the San Antonio Police Department responded to a domestic violence call around 3 a.m. and ended with the suspect, Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez, dead, and an officer wounded. The officer is expected to survive after undergoing surgery on Sunday.

It was unclear if the suspect was killed by return fire from police or if he committed suicide, according to Fox News. Chacon-Gutierrez illegally entered the U.S. in November 2023 and was apprehended by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, Texas, according to law enforcement officials. He was then released into the country with a court date set for April 2026.

SAPD Chief William McManus said, “When officers arrived, they learned that a female victim had been assaulted by her boyfriend. When officers went into the apartment, he was lying in bed with a rifle by his side.” A SWAT team entered the apartment and found the suspect, who was later pronounced dead, KSAT reported. The female victim in the domestic violence call was not seriously injured, according to police.

Illegal immigration remains a top issue heading into the 2024 election, especially after Vice President Kamala Harris — who President Joe Biden put in charge of addressing the immigration crisis in 2021 — became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Last week, the House — with the help of six Democrats — passed a resolution condemning “the Biden Administration and its Border Czar, Kamala Harris’s, failure to secure the United States border.”

Throughout his 2024 campaign, former President Donald Trump has focused on the numerous violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants against American citizens during Biden and Harris’ time in the White House. Just this year, illegal immigrants have been charged in the murders of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, Michigan woman Ruby Garcia, Maryland woman Rachel Morin, and most recently, Nashville restaurant and bar owner Matt Carney.

Last week, Trump told Fox News host Jesse Watters that he would have “no choice” but to conduct mass deportations if he took back the White House.

“We have no choice, we have to get the criminals out,” Trump said. “These are murderers. These are drug dealers. These are people that will take women and put them in the trunk of a car and sell them to the highest bidder, they’ll come across the border, human traffickers. Actually, it’s almost as big as the drug trade. Now, you wouldn’t even believe this. And the reason is because of the internet. The internet has made that into a massive business, human trafficking, it’s mostly in women.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
