John Fetterman Will Be First Senate Democrat To Take A Meeting With Trump

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) confirmed on Thursday that he intended to take a meeting at Mar-a-Lago with President-elect Donald Trump, making him the first Senate Democrat to do so.

Fox News Senior Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram reported the news, sharing a statement Fetterman issued on the topic.

“Fox confirms: Trump/Fetterman to meet Senator Fetterman’s statement: ‘President Trump invited me to meet, and I accepted. I’m the Senator for all Pennsylvanians— not just Democrats in Pennsylvania. I’ve been clear that no one is my gatekeeper. I will meet with and have a conversation with anyone if it helps me deliver for Pennsylvania and the nation.'”

“Yes, we are going to have a conversation,” Fetterman said in a statement given to CBS News. “I think that one, he’s the president, or he will be officially…and I think it’s pretty reasonable that if the president would like to have a conversation — or invite someone to have a conversation — to have it.”

“I have no idea what’s going to exactly come up. So, I mean, regardless of whatever comes up, that’s going to be part of the conversation,” he added.

Fetterman was also the first Senate Democrat to sign on and sponsor the Laken Riley Act — named for the Georgia nursing student who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien who had been arrested for theft, but not deported — which would compel federal officials to take action against illegal immigrants who have been charged with theft.

He has also signaled a willingness to vote in favor of and work with at least a few of President-elect Trump’s nominees, saying that is simply part of the way “democracy works.”

Fetterman may not have much company among his Democratic colleagues, however, according a recent video made for social media. After first promising to work for the people, they also promised to fight against any Trump policies that they did not like.

The date and time of any such meeting between Fetterman and Trump has not yet been finalized. Trump has already met with at least one prominent Democrat ahead of his second inauguration and the start of his second term in office: Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
