Pop singer JoJo Siwa is upset by the backlash she received for appearing on a magazine cover sporting a bedazzled fake bulge as part of her outfit.
“The stone bulge is … we were just giving a little spice, a little gender-bend, a little you can be anything you want to be. Spice it up a little,” the 21-year-old explained during a recent appearance on the “Talk Tuah” podcast, per HuffPost.
Siwa compared her outfit choice to that of actor Harry Styles, who wore a dress on the cover of Vogue in 2020.
“It’s kind of like back in the day when Harry Styles wore a dress,” she continued. “Obviously wearing a bulge is a little different than wearing just a dress, but…”
“One thing about me is I like to be for the people that are different, for the people that don’t fit in and for the people who are just unafraid to take risks,” Siwa went on. “I feel like being that person, I have to go as far as I possibly can into the risk zone. I have to explore the risk zone to see what it’s like.”
The cover shoot in question for the September issue of LadyGunn Magazine featured Siwa posing in a squatting position wearing a nude strapless top with nipples and built-in abs covered in rhinestones. She also wore a bedazzled codpiece over a prosthetic bulge and gold combat boots.
She discussed some of the backlash, including commenters saying she was “desperate for attention” and “ruining her career.”
Siwa called the backlash “brutal.”
“It’s really hard. People are just d***s,” she said of those negative reactions.

Siwa has been making headlines for the past several years after she came out as gay and underwent a dramatic image transformation, moving away from being an idol to pre-teen girls. Now, the former reality star infuses her songs and performances with sexually explicit content and profanity and is in a lesbian relationship.
The former child star has compared her transformation to Miley Cyrus. “Like it or not, everyone knows that moment and I think that that made such an impact,” Siwa said earlier this year, as The Daily Wire previously reported. “I think every child star has made their impact in some which way becoming an adult star. But Miley’s flip, Miley’s switch, Miley’s turn was the greatest thing I’ve witnessed with my own two eyes.”
