Katy Perry Under Investigation In Spain For Possibly Damaging Sand Dunes While Filming Music Video

Singer Katy Perry is being investigated by authorities for allegedly filming a music video on Spanish islands without proper authorization.

During a video shoot for the pop star’s new song “Lifetimes,” Perry can be seen dancing on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera and in nightclubs. Her video shoot was partially filmed on the uninhabited island of S’Espalmador, which contains sand dunes that the Spanish government says have “great ecological value,” according to the BBC. The outlet reported that the dunes are “protected.”

Local government officials issued a press release saying the celebrity did not seek permission to film in that location. However, the crime would not be classified as “environmental infringement” because parties can be granted access to the area with prior authorization.

Spanish officials are reportedly investigating possible damage to the dunes.

A translation of the complaint says in part, “The filming of photographic reports, cinematographic, videographic or of any other kind that involve the taking of images in any medium and format with an advertising or commercial exhibition purpose, requires the express authorization of the competent ministry for the environment, without prejudice to other authorizations that can be granted by the corresponding authorities and bodies, including those pertaining to property rights.”

This latest development comes just after fans and critics slammed Perry for her single “Woman’s World.” According to Time, the lyrics “appeared to be feminist on the surface” but were “combined with a video that many believe catered to the male gaze.” The backlash to the song prompted the singer to insist it was meant to be “satire.”

In the music video, Perry dances around in skimpy outfits while repeating the chorus line, “It’s a woman’s world and you’re lucky to be living in it.” At one point, the singer gets crushed by an anvil, then gets reinflated and keeps marching around streets filled with chaos. The song ends as she rides off in a helicopter holding the symbol for the female gender.

Mainstream critics weren’t fans, with Vulture saying the song was “the stalest sort of retread.” The Cut reviewer said “Woman’s World” was “forgettable” and “cringe,” while The Guardian called it “regressive” and “dated.”

Perry responded on social media, posting, “YOU CAN DO ANYTHING! EVEN SATIRE!”

The singer shared a behind-the-scenes clip and said, “We’re kind of just having fun being a bit sarcastic with it. It’s very slapstick and very on the nose.”

Perry’s sixth studio album, “143,” drops on September 20.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
