Mattel Facing Lawsuit After Misprinting Porn Site On ‘Wicked’ Kids Merchandise

Mattel now faces a class action lawsuit after it misprinted a website on the side of its “Wicked” kids doll merchandise packaging that was actually for a pornographic site.

A South Carolina mom filed the lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles, suing the company after she said her daughter was exposed to “hardcore, full on nude pornographic images depicting actual intercourse” when the minor went to the website provided on the doll packaging, TMZ reported.

The mother said the daughter showed her pictures she got from the website “wicked.com,” which was printed on the side of her toy box instead of the correct address, which is wickedmovie.com. The mom said both she and her daughter were left “horrified” by the “inexcusable error” by the company, CNBC noted. The suit seeks at least $5 million in damages for anyone who bought the “Wicked” dolls with the misprinted website address.

Mattel initially issued an apology after learning about the misprint with the website information. And the company immediately removed the doll collection, including fashion dolls, singing figurines, and deluxe collectible models, from the shelves from the various retailers that were selling the kids items, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” a statement from Mattel previously read.

“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this,” it added. “Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”

The “Wicked” movie is a musical based on the popular Broadway show that explores the events before Dorothy arrives in Oz. The film features a high-profile cast, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande playing the leading roles of Elphaba and Glinda.

“Wicked” is being released in two parts, with the first installment released on November 22. The Broadway musical is based on the book “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” which was inspired by L. Frank Baum’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
