Musk’s Trump Interview, Discussion Generates 1 Billion Views, X Says

Billionaire Elon Musk‘s conversation with former President Donald Trump on Monday evening and the discussion surrounding it generated nearly 1 billion views on X, the social media platform said.

Musk and Trump spoke for more than two hours, covering a range of topics, including the assassination attempt on the former president’s life, immigration, government waste, President Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris — Trump’s opponent in the 2024 election.

“Between 7:47 PM and 10:47 PM ET, President Donald Trump’s Space post received 73 million views,” X posted early Tuesday morning. “During the same period, there were 4 million posts about Elon Musk and President Trump’s conversation on ????, generating a total of 998 million views.”

At any given time during the stream, a counter on X showed more than a million live listeners.

Musk opened the conversation by asking Trump about the assassination attempt, which took place last month during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Notably, the tech entrepreneur publicly endorsed Trump following the shooting and suggested on Monday that Trump’s reaction in the face of fire had a lot to do with that decision. 

“You can’t fake bravery under such circumstances,” Musk told the former president. “The courage is instinctual or it is not;  it’s not a rehearsed action. I think a lot of people admire your courage under fire there.”

As Trump turned his head to look at a projected slide on illegal immigration, bullets zipped by his head. Trump quipped, “Illegal immigration saved my life!”

“The incredible thing though — when you talk about the odds,” Trump continued. “I say [it was] an act of God. It’s a miracle that it happened and I’m honored by it.”

Trump also went after Harris and the Democrats for what he called a “coup” against Biden and took a swipe at Harris for largely refusing to take questions from reporters since she became the Democrat nominee. 

“By the way, you think Biden could do this interview?” he said to Musk. “Do you think that Kamala could do this interview?”

“No, they could not,” Musk responded.

“It’s pretty sad when you think that somebody that does this for a living can’t answer a question or is afraid to do an interview,” Trump said.
