Over the weekend, Rosie O’Donnell reacted to headlines about her adopted daughter, Chelsea Belle, being arrested on various charges.
On Saturday, the 62-year-old comedian wrote on Instagram, “Chelsea is in the news today – this is a photo from a better time – here is the family comment. sadly this is not new for our family – chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade – we r all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease.”
O’Donnell added the hashtags “love” and “alanon.” The image in the post showed Belle holding a newborn baby.
She was responding to reports from last week regarding Belle being arrested in Wisconsin on drug and child neglect charges.
According to court records, the 27-year-old was arrested and booked into the Marinette County Jail on September 17 on felony charges of maintaining a drug trafficking place, child neglect, and methamphetamine possession along with several misdemeanor drug charges, including disorderly conduct and possession of THC, drug paraphernalia, and illegally obtained prescription drugs.
She was released later that month after posting a $2000 bond but was later booked into Oconto County Jail on October 11, per Entertainment Weekly. She is still in custody there for felony charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotic drugs and bail jumping, in addition to misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Belle is scheduled to appear in court on November 4 and November 7, the outlet noted.
O’Donnell adopted Belle with her ex-wife, Kelli Carpenter, when she was a baby. In 2015, Belle ran away from home at the age of 17 and was found a week later living with a boyfriend. She moved to Wisconsin that same year to live with her birth mother.
Belle and O’Donnell were estranged until 2018 but rekindled their relationship at that time due to Belle being pregnant. O’Donnell discussed their relationship during an appearance on “The Talk” that year.
“She’s doing better now and we’re both communicating with each other,” the actress said. “When somebody does something unforgivable to you and you can forgive them and they can forgive you, there’s a kind of grace that descends upon the both of you within that.”
O’Donnell has four other children: Parker, 29; Blake, 24; Vivienne, 21; and Dakota, 11.
Belle has four children, including Skylar Rose, born in December 2018; Riley, born in January 2021; Avery Lynn, born in February 2022; and son Atlas, born in October 2023, per People.
