Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) underwent surgery on Saturday in Europe after she fell and broke her hip while traveling in Luxembourg.
Pelosi’s office said that it was a “successful hip replacement” and that she was already “well on the mend.”
“Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Landstuhl Army Base and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness,” her office said in a statement. “Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans.”

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives was in Luxembourg with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Pelosi was admitted into the hospital after she tripped and fell following a group photo with other lawmakers and officials who were on the trip.
A photo posted by the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg appeared to show the group photo that Pelosi was posing for before she fell.
She can be seen wearing high heels in the photo as she clutched the hand of House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX).

“She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our service members during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” the statement said. “Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe.”
The statement added that she was “personally and officially honored” to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in WWII.
