Research Institute Identifies 28 Iran-Backed Terrorist Groups In Judea, Samaria

The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), a research institute focusing on national security and foreign policy, has identified 28 Iran-backed terrorist groups and branches in the Biblical areas of Judea and Samaria in Israel, sometimes referred to as the West Bank, where Palestinians have consistently murdered Jews for decades.
“Iran-backed terrorist groups, including, al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, and Hamas, have proliferated in number and strengthened their presence in the West Bank in recent years,” FDD’s Long War Journal reported. “The groups have established battalions (Katibat) in Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarm and beyond. Iranian arms and funding have primarily fueled this violent escalation. FDD’s Long War Journal has identified 26 West Bank branches belonging to established terrorist organizations, and two independent armed groups.”
Terrorist groups affiliated with Hamas include Jund Allah – Tubas, which has published video of terrorists throwing explosives; Katibat Tulkarm, whose members claimed responsibility in May for carrying out a shooting attack on the Israeli community of Bat Hafer, and Katibat Aqabat Jabr, which claimed responsibility for a coordinated shooting attack with Islamic Jihad against the Israeli community of Yafit.

Terrorist groups affiliated with Islamic Jihad include Katibat Beit Ummar a.k.a. Katibat Hebron, which claimed responsibility for attacking Israeli troops near the Israeli community of Karmei Tzur; Qabatiya Groups, which claimed it detonated an IED against an Israeli military vehicle; Burqin Groups, which published a video demonstrating fighters training and clashing against Israeli forces; Jabaa Groups, whose members shot at Israeli forces on July 20, 2023; Katibat Tulkarm, which claimed responsibility for detonating an IED against the IDF; Katibat Jenin, which claimed responsibility for wounding Israeli troops with an IED blast; Katibat Tubas; Katibat Ariha, which fired on Israeli forces operating in Jericho in September 2023; Kafr Dan; and Katibat Nablus.
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is affiliated with Cheetah Battalion – Jenin, which claimed responsibility for carrying out a shooting attack on the community of Mevo Dota; Tubas; Nour Shams Camp; Katibat Qaffin, which claimed it targeted an Israeli military vehicle with a “high explosive device,”: Lions of Glory Groups Qalqilya; Rapid Response Group Tulkarm; Jalazoun Battalion; Youth of Revenge and Liberation – Nablus; Youth of Revenge and Liberation – Tulkarm; Occupied Territory, and Youth of Revenge and Liberation – Balata Camp.
“The battalions or branches of established terrorist groups included in this visual have claimed responsibility for an attack, provided proof corroborating an assault, and/or created a logo that conveys an allegiance to an established armed organization operating in the West Bank,” Long War Journal noted.
