‘Sopranos’ Star Slams Liberals Celebrating Trump Assassination Attempt

“Sopranos” star Drea de Matteo slammed liberals who have celebrated the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.

Speaking to Fox News, the 52-year-old actress and self-declared liberal admitted the hate and vitriol coming from the left against Trump has surprised her, noting that she thought the party was all about “inclusivity” and “compassion.”

“Everybody has their right to their opinion, and they have freedom of speech, so here we are,” Matteo said. “But, again, I’m a liberal. I am a liberal who does not understand how the left has become so rebellious, with not one undertone of peace, love, harmony and compassion.”

“You’re supposed to be the party of inclusivity, of love, of peace,” she added. “And all of a sudden, these are the rioters. These are the mean-spirited folks out there. And I don’t understand that.”

One such liberal she referenced was actor Jack Black’s bandmate Kyle Gass who said at his concert in Australia that his birthday wish would be “Don’t miss Trump next time” after a shooter opened fire on Trump at his Butler rally, killing one of his supporters and injuring two others, including the former president.

The actress said that, “to hear a portion of America be on board with death. And that I don’t understand. Of course it’s hateful rhetoric, but I do think that it goes way deeper than that.”

Matteo admitted she used to be one of those people who was plagued by the so-called “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” but said she did some research on her own and changed her mind.

“Say what you want about Trump, and I understand that a lot of people have Trump Derangement Syndrome,” the HBO star said. “I was one of them. But people can change. And it’s not that Trump changed, I changed. And I did my research, and I paid more attention to what was going on.”

Gass has since issued an apology for the “dangerous” comment he made about Trump.

“The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake,” Gass said in a statement, Variety reported.  “I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone.”

“What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement,” he added. “I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”

A backlash ensued against Gass and Black, and the “School of Rock” star apologized for what happened and said he was “blindsided” by Gass’ comment, as previously reported.
