‘The Are No Checks And Balances!’: Joy Behar Loses It As House Control Leans Right

Joy Behar lost it during Thursday’s broadcast of “The View,” claiming that because Republicans had put up big wins in the White House and the Senate — and also appeared poised to hold control of the House — that the “checks and balances” written into the United States Constitution had failed.

Behar joined her cohosts on the ABC midday talk show for a second full broadcast of meltdowns and hand-wringing following now-President Elect Donald Trump’s decisive victory at the polls on Tuesday.

It was cohost Sara Haines who began the discussion with praise for Vice President Kamala Harris and her concession speech, despite the fact that Harris — like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton before her — had refused to address her supporters on Election Night and had instead waited until more than 14 hours later.

“She’s even inspiring in defeat,” Haines suggested that, if the roles had been reversed, Trump would not have conceded and raved about Harris’ concession speech. “Like, the things she said about we don’t stop fighting.”

“I’d like to be positive, but today I don’t — yesterday I felt better. Maybe it was the Valium,” a visibly dejected Behar complained, prompting laughs from the audience. “But today I feel like we lost the Senate, the Supreme Court, the Executive Branch, the House is on the verge of going to him. It’s pathetic! There are no checks and balances!”

“A completely intelligent, qualified woman lost to a guy who’s simulating sex with a microphone,” she complained. “I mean, come on, America.”

Behar joins many others in legacy media who have openly struggled with Harris’ resounding loss. The majority have blamed racism, sexism, “misinformation,” and billionaire Elon Musk — but none have raised the possibility that Harris or her policies might be unpopular, nor have they reflected on any role they themselves might have played in the way the election unfolded.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
