Trump Signs Executive Order Banning Government Support for Irreversible Child Sex Changes

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday preventing the federal government from funding or supporting irreversible transgender medical interventions for minors.

“Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions,” the order says. “This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s history, and it must end.

The order says children will “regret that they have been mutilated and begin to grasp the horrifying tragedy that they will never be able to conceive children of their own or nurture their children through breastfeeding.”

“Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another,” the order says, “and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures.”

The executive order requires agencies to to cut off federal financial participation in institutions that provide transgender procedures for minors.

Thanks to the order, taxpayers will no longer fund the child sex changes through federal employees’ insurance plans.

Almost 30 states have passed laws restricting child gender transitions, which include sterilizing hormone replacement regimens and irreversible surgeries. Trump’s order requires the Department of Justice to prioritize investigations of those who break the law regarding these procedures.

A case currently being considered by the Supreme Court will determine if states can constitutionally protect minors from transgender medical interventions.

Female detransitioners who underwent double mastectomies as minors and lived to regret it have warned against allowing children to consent to procedures with life-long consequences.

Chloe Cole, 20, got a double mastectomy at 15 only to regret it a few months later. She calls this “the biggest mistake of my life.”

Clementine Breen, 20, began taking puberty blockers at 12 and testosterone at 13. She had “top surgery”—a double mastectomy—at 14.

Breen says her mental state immediately got worse. Her anxiety developed into what she describes as a “psychotic break.”

“What really, really upset me is that I will never be able to breastfeed, and I will have to get surgery every 10 years to replace the implants, and it won’t look as natural as it should have been,” Breen told The Daily Signal. “I will never know what my body should have looked like.”

Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kans., introduced the Safeguarding the Overall Protection of Minors Act in December to protect kids from transgender procedures.

He celebrated the executive order, saying, “Under President Trump’s leadership, common sense and dignity have returned to the White House.”

“This is another promise made, promise kept by the President and his unwavering commitment to protecting our children from transgender activists in what can only be described as child abuse. President Trump’s Executive Order rightfully prohibits the castration, mutilation, and use of dangerous irreversible therapy treatments on children,” Marshall said in a statement.

On the campaign trail, then-Sen. JD Vance told The Daily Signal transgender medical interventions for minors are “crazy.” 

“I think sex changes for minors, permanently altering, either chemically or surgically, the body of young child, is crazy,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said. “I can’t believe that we do this. I really can’t.”
