President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering stepping an and rescuing the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C.
The New York Post reported that the hotel is “failing” and the incoming president is considering once again rebranding it as a Trump International Hotel, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.
“Our family has saved the hotel once,” Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, told the Post. “If asked, we would save it again.”
Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, is “weighing options that include a licensing deal or even possibly buying back the lease on the government-owned, 125-year-old Old Post Office building,” the report said.
A source told the publication that it was still “to be determined” which of the two options the Trump Organization wanted to pursue.
Trump and his family took part in a grand opening and ribbon-cutting event for the hotel when they took it over in October 2016.
The hotel was a popular destination for insiders and Republican officials during Trump’s first term in office.
Trump sold the hotel in 2022 to a Miami investor group that reopened it as a Waldorf Astoria hotel.
The hotel’s numbers “dropped off” after Trump sold the hotel, the Post said.
News about the potential buy or lease deal generated excitement online among conservatives.
Attorney and conservative columnist Kurt Schlichter posted on X: “I was there many times and its glory days and it was the most fantastic hotel ever. Trump absolutely needs to take it back over.”
“Good idea,” wrote former Trump official Ezra Cohen.
