‘We Got Him’: Arrest Made of Man Suspected of Assassinating Charlie Kirk

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed that police had arrested the man suspected in the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk.

“We got him,” Cox said at the start of the Friday morning press conference.

Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated at 12:23 p.m. Wednesday at a rally at Utah Valley University. The suspect has been identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah, according to reports.

Robinson had become increasingly political in recent years, Cox said. A family member of the suspect said Robinson recently mentioned that Kirk was coming to UVU. He talked about why he didn’t like him and his viewpoints.

Some of the bullet casings recovered after the assassination were engraved with the phrases “Hey fascist, catch” and “If you read this you are gay lmao,” Cox said.

The casings demonstrate that the shooting was a “political assassination,” according to the governor.

“I think the clearest one that says ‘catch, fascist’ – and by the way, that’s catch like a ball, catch this – I think that that speaks for itself,” Cox told reporters.

“Over the past 48 hours, I have been as angry as I have ever been, as sad as I have ever been,” Cox said.

Cox encouraged the younger generation to build a culture where Americans can embrace their differences.

“To my young friends out there, you are inheriting a country where politics feels like rage. It feels like rage is the only option, but…we can choose a different path,” he added.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the FBI is proud to bring justice to Kirk’s family and honor his memory. He thanked the White House for providing the resources to make progress for Charlie.

After the FBI released photos of the suspect and announced a $100,000 reward for the information leading to the arrest of the suspect, authorities received thousands of leads.

“As of this morning, thanks to your great work, we have over 11,000 leads that were called in to the FBI, and we are running out every single lead that we can; every one of those leads will be run out,” Patel said.

Earlier Friday, President Donald Trump revealed that police had arrested the suspected assassin of Kirk.

“I think with a high-degree of certainty, we have him,” he said on Fox & Friends Friday morning.

“Somebody that was very close to him said, ‘hmm, that’s him,'” Trump said. “And essentially went to the father, went to a U.S. marshal who was fantastic, by the way, and the person was involved with law enforcement, but was a person of faith, a minister, and brought him to a U.S. Marshal who was fantastic and the father convinced the son, this is it.”

“We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for, but they drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now,” Trump said.

Trump said he hopes the killer of the young husband and father of two gets the death penalty.

“I hope he’s going to be found guilty, I would imagine. And I hope he gets the death penalty,” Trump said. “What he did, Charlie Kirk was the finest person, he didn’t deserve this. He worked so hard and so well. Everybody liked him.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
