Billy Joel Postpones Concert Tour For Medical Reason: ‘My Health Comes First’

Singer Billy Joel has postponed several tour dates after undergoing surgery for an undisclosed “medical condition.”

The 75-year-old recording artist will not be putting on eight scheduled shows between now and July. The next time Joel takes the stage will be at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, as Variety reported.

The “Piano Man” singer did not disclose details of the medical concern other than to say his “health must come first.”

“Billy Joel’s upcoming concert dates will be rescheduled due to a medical condition,” the statement began. “The current tour will be postponed for four months to allow him to recover from recent surgery and to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors.”

“Joel is expected to make a full recovery,” it continued before ending with a message from the singer himself.

“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” he wrote. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

The postponed shows include scheduled stops in Detroit, Toronto, Syracuse, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, and Milwaukee, along with previously planned shows in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Liverpool, England. All concerts have been pushed to 2026 except for the Detroit show with Stevie Nicks, which will take place in November.

Current ticket holders will be able to attend the new dates with their current tickets.

Joel’s last show was on February 22, where fan footage captured the musician taking a tumble onstage at the Mohegan Sun resort in Montville, Connecticut. The star was singing “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me” when he began spinning his microphone stand. He flung the stand across the stage, but the action caused him to stumble and fall.

It’s unclear if the falling incident had anything to do with the surgery.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
