Congress Moves to Defund Second Largest Child Sex Change Provider

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—The House Energy and Commerce Committee has announced its portion of the reconciliation bill would slash Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding. Now, a conservative think tank is urging Republicans in Congress to act to defund the abortion giant.

The reconciliation bill contains language removing funding for organizations that participate in transgender medical interventions for minors.

“Congress can defund Planned Parenthood NOW—but Republicans are dragging their feet,” Advancing American Freedom, a think tank founded by former Vice President Mike Pence, wrote in a memo. “Planned Parenthood is the leading abortion provider in America and increasingly a leader in ‘transitioning’ children.”

Pro-life organization Live Action just released an undercover report exposing that Planned Parenthood is prescribing cross-sex hormones for minors with same-day prescriptions via virtual appointments.

Planned Parenthood refers to itself as “the second-largest provider of hormone therapy” in America.

Nearly 450 Planned Parenthood clinics offer transgender services, with 45 of 49 Planned Parenthood affiliates providing “gender-affirming hormone therapy.”

Planned Parenthood distributes thousands of abortion pills every year. According to a new study from the Ethics and Public Policy Institute, about 11% of women taking the chemical abortion pill experience adverse events, including sepsis, hemorrhaging, infection, or another life-threatening complication.

In June 2022, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and the Joint Economic Committee issued a report showing that the loss of lives from abortions costs the American economy trillions of dollars every year.

Between 2019 and 2021, Planned Parenthood received $148 million in HHS grants and $1.5 billion in Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP payments with its regional organizations receiving $108 million.

Planned Parenthood used some of its funding last fall to attempt to influence the outcome of the election.

Planned Parenthood responded to congressional Republicans’ plans to defund it saying that “it doesn’t get a blank check from the government.”

“Like any other health care provider, Planned Parenthood affiliates are reimbursed for services their health centers provide to patients who rely on public health programs like Medicaid,” the abortion giant said on its website.

“There is no reason that American taxpayers should continue to foot the bill for Planned Parenthood’s reckless abortion and gender transition at all costs attitudes,” the Advancing American Freedom memo said. “Republicans in Congress must stand up and finally defund Planned Parenthood, once and for all.”
