Defending Women’s Sports Isn’t Radical—It’s Common Sense

As a doctor who has delivered over 5,000 babies, I can say with full confidence that boys are boys and girls are girls. This basic biological statement—that even third graders know as truth—should not be radical. But it’s sad that in 2025, we must even say it.

Democrat politicians and extreme woke ideologues have shrugged their shoulders at the humiliation and disenfranchisement of millions of young women and girls, even though 80% of Americans agree with President Donald Trump’s view that biological boys should not compete in girls sports.

The Biden-Harris administration abused Title IX and forced its gender theory madness onto America. The result was confused men and boys unfairly competing against women and girls in sports and these biological males invaded protected personal spaces.

I believe America’s women and girls deserve to know that someone is fighting to protect the integrity and fairness of their competitive sports and standing up for their right to safe and protected spaces like bathrooms and locker rooms.

Thankfully, Trump has taken up the mantle. Last month, he signed an executive order protecting women’s and girls sports. I was honored to attend Trump’s ceremony and celebrate at the White House as he signed this critical order.

To expand on this effort in the Senate, I was proud to co-sponsor my good friend Coach Tommy Tuberville’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. On Monday evening, I joined all my Republican colleagues to vote in support of this commonsense legislation.

Even though this bill would have preserved Title IX protections for female athletes, every single Senate Democrat voted against it.

What a slap in the face to women and girls nationwide.

Boys and men are on average stronger and faster than women. Men have considerably more fast-twitch muscle fibers than women, their bones are denser, and they typically grow taller and weigh more. These are biological realities that are beyond dispute.

None of this means female athletes aren’t top-tier and excellent in their respective sports. There are incredible female athletes like Simone Biles, Serena Williams, and Caitlin Clark, just to name a few.

But imagine those titans of women’s sports training for decades in a chosen sport, only to be beaten by a man pretending to be a girl at the Olympics or the NCAA Championship.

You don’t have to look far for that exact scenario—just look at what happened to Riley Gaines. She trained most of her life for the 2022 NCAA Swim Championship, only to tie with a biological male.

Girls and women deserve the chance to compete together in sports fairly without boys or men stripping them of titles, trophies, or even scholarship opportunities.

I remember when I entered high school and Title IX was first introduced. A radical change occurred for young ladies across America. They were afforded the opportunity to learn the same lessons I and many other men were taught from playing sports, including the value of hard work, teamwork, and leadership. They were also given scholarship opportunities for college.

But now my colleagues across the aisle want to remove all the progress made from Title IX by stripping women of their trophies and opportunities and unfairly giving them to biological boys.

This insanity goes beyond sports into far more sinister territory.

Women and young girls are also being displaced from the safety of their own locker rooms and bathrooms. As a society, we have separated sports and locker rooms by gender for a long time for a very simple reason: It’s inappropriate and wrong for males to be undressing in front of females.

I challenge any parent who disagrees with my views here to consider if they would be OK with their little girl or young adult daughter undressing in the presence of a biological man.

But despite my deeply held convictions on this matter—both as a father, grandfather, and a physician—I also believe we must approach this issue with compassion and kindness. Gender dysphoria is a very real, very serious condition that deserves treatment, but women shouldn’t be victimized for the affirmation of an anti-scientific lie.

Yet, as we witnessed Monday evening, radical left-wing activists and their captured politicians will work hard to stop commonsense legislation like the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act from becoming law.

The Democratic Party needs to take a big step back and ask why they’re fighting so hard against women’s rights.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
