Dem Running for AG in Ohio Has Something to Say About Charlie Kirk

A Democrat running for Ohio attorney general is the latest public figure facing condemnation for vile comments about the death of Charlie Kirk.

Several incidents have already been noted in Ohio, where WCPO’s Scott Kyser has faced the music for a Facebook post mocking the murder and Fairview Park City Council President Michael Kilbane was forced to resign as well. Now, Elliot Forhan, a former state representative running for attorney general, is facing scrutiny for his Facebook posts.

A post from Forhan’s personal Facebook page featured a red background and opens with the statement “F*** Charlie Kirk” (though the Monday morning post is not censored). “If you cannot call a bigot a bigot in America, then we do not have the free speech that he pretended to care about,” the post continued.

When reached for comment about his post by The Daily Signal, Forhan began by expressing condolences for Kirk’s family, while still calling out “Kirk and his movement of bigotry and violence.”

“Violence is wrong. That was my very first statement when I learned that Charlie Kirk was murdered. My thoughts and prayers were and still are with his family and loved ones. Glorifying Kirk and his movement of bigotry and violence is also wrong, yet many public figures and even NFL teams are engaging in it,” he said.

Most NFL teams honored Kirk on Sunday with a moment of silence or by flying flags at half-mast.

“People are being fired from their jobs and terrorized by the Trump administration for repeating Charlie Kirk’s own words. The vice president himself is targeting Americans from the host chair of Kirk’s podcast. I expressed anger over the whitewashing of Kirk’s legacy of bigotry and hate. That is my First Amendment right,” Forhan continued.

On Monday, Vice President JD Vance filled in for Kirk on “The Charlie Kirk Show.” Vance’s role as a guest host was applauded by many conservatives, including The Daily Signal’s Tony Kinnett during that evening’s episode of “The Tony Kinnett Cast.”

In addition to mentioning Vance and the Trump administration overall, Forhan referenced Libs of TikTok, which throughout Monday highlighted the Democratic candidate’s Facebook post and his campaign contact information.

“Chaya Raichik, a/k/a @LibsofTiktok, targeted me for that. I’ve received now thousands of vile comments, texts, emails, and voicemails. I stand together with the people whom Charlie Kirk targeted and whom the Trump administration and other Republicans are targeting today,” Forhan concluded.

The Daily Signal reached out to Raichik for a response.

Forhan has also shared articles to his Facebook page about Kirk, including The Nation’s “Charlie Kirk’s Legacy Deserves No Mourning” on Friday night; The New York Times’ “Charlie Kirk Didn’t Shy Away From Who He Was. We Shouldn’t Either” on Sunday afternoon; and The Guardian’s “Charlie Kirk’s killing was a tragedy. But we must not rewrite his life” on Sunday night.

Forhan represented Ohio’s 21st District from Jan. 1, 2023 until Dec. 31, 2024. He was defeated in the 2024 primary by now state Rep. Eric Synenberg.

Ohio Auditor Keith Faber is also running for attorney general, as a Republican. In a post on X, Faber condemned Forhan. He further did so in a statement for The Daily Signal.

“This vulgar outburst and others from elected officials across Ohio are not just immature, they’re toxic to our politics and unworthy of people who claim to want to lead. Charlie Kirk was a Christian, a husband, a father, and a thoughtful conservative voice,” Faber said. “Are the likes of Elliot Forhan, Ted Berry, and Michael Kilbane the best the Ohio Democrats have? Now’s the time for Democrats to take a stand. Do you stand for decency or with people like Forhan, Berry, and Kilbane, who have no decency at all? Ohioans are waiting for your answer.”

Faber also referenced Ted Berry, a Municipal Court judge in Hamilton County who has received scrutiny for comments in a Facebook thread that Republican State Rep. Adam Mathews said “celebrated” Kirk’s death. As the Cincinnati Enquirer reports, Mathews has called on Berry to resign.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
