Dems Should Give Mammy the Duke Treatment

Democrats have a Mammy problem. The solution lies in the GOP playbook, if they are smart enough to open it.

Democrats seem puzzled about how to handle their nominee for mayor of New York, state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. I call him Mammy, for short. The Ugandan-born, ethnically Indian 33-year-old is almost a ChatGPT-generated far-leftist designed by GOP prompts as a too-good-to-be-true political rival.

Mammy is hard on private property and soft on Big Government. He promises to be even softer on criminals. Prison cells? Who needs ’em? “The entire carceral system is an unreformable public health hazard,” he announced via social media. “Defund & dismantle.”

If you like free stuff, you will love Mayor Mammy. He promises free rides on city buses. Child care? Also free!

Mammy makes Nancy Pelosi look like Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Mammy calls himself a “democratic socialist.” However, his “end goal” (on video, no less) involves “seizing the means of production.” This is lifted directly from Vladimir Lenin’s The State and Revolution. Mamdani is a Marxist-Leninist.

Rather than run like hell from Mammy, Democrat Al Sharpton invited him to address his National Action Network. New York Attorney General Letitia James marched with Mammy in last month’s Gay Pride parade. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., sang Mammy’s praises before he won the nomination. She continues to do so. Capitol Hill’s two top Democrats—House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, both also New Yorkers—serve delicious word salads about Mammy, rather than denounce him as a committed commie.

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., has expressed some opposition to Mammy. But no other prominent Dem has stood up and simply said:

I am a Democrat. Zohran Mamdani is a Communist. I believe in regulating companies. He believes in ‘seizing them.’ I want to tax rich people. He wants to tax ‘whiter areas.’ I believe in Food Stamps. He believes in government-run grocery stores. I love our Jewish brothers and sisters. He will not condemn ‘the global Intifada.’ I want to see Democrats win, but not at this price. I urge Democrats to vote against Mamdani in huge numbers this November. Big government? Hell Yes! Havana on the Hudson? Hell No!

Democrats should study how Republicans behaved when an equally venomous snake slithered into their big tent.

In 1991, the Louisiana gubernatorial race came down to incumbent Democrat Edwin Edwards versus David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, then a GOP state lawmaker.

Republicans did not salivate over the prospect of winning the governor’s mansion. Instead, they unloaded on Duke—from the commanding heights to the grassroots.

“When someone has a long record, an ugly record, of racism and bigotry, that record simply cannot be erased by the glib rhetoric of a political campaign,” then-President George H. W. Bush declared. “So I believe David Duke is an insincere charlatan. I believe he’s attempting to hoodwink the voters of Louisiana. I believe he should be rejected for what he is and what he stands for.”

Local Republicans endorsed Edwards, a flamboyantly corrupt politician. This spawned America’s greatest bumper of all time: “Vote for the Crook: It’s Important.”

My old friend Quin Hillyer is a lifelong Republican who savors oxygen slightly less than GOP victories. And yet he manned his howitzer and blasted Duke relentlessly.

“Duke’s antisemitism made him even more dangerous than a redneck racist,” Hillyer told me. “The organized GOP and its top state and local officials strenuously blocked Duke at every turn.”

Edwards won reelection, largely thanks to Republicans who wanted nothing to do with an antisemitic extremist.

New York Republicans just launched SaveNYC, as a pest-control effort to stop Mammy.

Conversely, Democrats are in no rush to stomp on the snake in their own tent. This suggests that, deep down, they find his smooth, Marxist-Leninist skin kind of sexy.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
