‘Don’t Be A PANICAN’: Trump Tells Americans To Be ‘Strong, Courageous’ Amid Tariff Fallout

President Donald Trump on Monday encouraged patience with his economic strategy amid the stock market fallout over the expected implementation of his “Liberation Day” tariffs.
Trump posted to Truth Social that “Weak and Stupid people” are panicking over the tariffs and the current drop in the stock market. The president said patience is needed to see the plan through to “GREATNESS.”
“The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!). Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!” Trump said, unveiling a new nickname for those turning against his tariff plan.
A group of Republicans in the Senate is backing legislation that would reassert Congress’ trade authority. The proposal, dubbed the Trade Review Act, would require Congressional approval on new tariffs and is co-sponsored by seven Republican senators: Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Jerry Moran of Kansas, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Todd Young of Indiana, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and Susan Collins of Maine.
Administration officials have said that dozens of countries have reached out to the White House after Trump’s tariff announcement to strike deals to avoid U.S. tariffs. The president said on Monday that he has already spoken with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba about a potential agreement.
“Countries from all over the World are talking to us. Tough but fair parameters are being set. Spoke to the Japanese Prime Minister this morning. He is sending a top team to negotiate! They have treated the U.S. very poorly on Trade. They don’t take our cars, but we take MILLIONS of theirs. Likewise Agriculture, and many other ‘things.’ It all has to change, but especially with CHINA!!!” Trump posted to Truth Social.
Stock prices continued to tumble on Monday. The president said on Sunday that the markets might drop but compared the drop to “medicine” for the U.S. economy.
I don’t want anything to go down, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something,” Trump said while speaking to reporters on Air Force One. “We have been treated so badly by other countries because we had stupid leadership that allowed this to happen.”
“They took our businesses. They took our money. They took our jobs. They moved it to Mexico. They moved it to Canada. They moved a lot of it to China. And it’s not sustainable. We’re not going to do it,” Trump said.
Reporter: "Is there pain in the market at some point you're unwilling to tolerate?"
Trump: : "I think your question is so stupid. I don't want anything to go down, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something — and we have been treated so badly by other countries." pic.twitter.com/WVU9V5q4Nz
