Georgia Asks AG Bondi to Drop Biden Admin Lawsuit Over Election Law

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has asked the U.S. attorney general to drop the federal lawsuit against the state’s election-reform law, litigation that commenced during the Biden administration.

In Raffensperger’s letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, sent late Wednesday, Georgia’s secretary of state said that voting in the state increased to record levels after the law passed.

Senate Bill 202, which Raffensperger advocated for and Gov. Brian Kemp signed in 2021, expands voter ID requirements to mail-in voting, puts restrictions on ballot harvesting, and codifies ballot drop boxes.

Democrats routinely called the Georgia law “Jim Crow 2.0,” while President Joe Biden dubbed it “Jim Eagle.” Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who leads the liberal political action committee Fair Fight Action, also opposed the legislation.

“The Biden administration and Stacey Abrams created a false narrative regarding Georgia’s elections,” Raffensperger said in a public statement. “The DOJ should never be leveraged for political purposes, and I hope Attorney General Bondi will join us in ending this frivolous lawsuit against the state of Georgia, and release documents exposing the coordination between the Biden DOJ and the liberal left.”

As noted in my book, “The Myth of Voter Suppression,” more than 20 states passed similar laws expanding voter ID requirements to all forms of voting in 2021, and voting levels increased or remained steady in 2022 and 2024.

The Biden administration filed its lawsuit in June 2021.

Raffensperger also urged the Justice Department to consider filing statements of interest in support of Georgia’s election administration practices in related legal cases, contending that the law has shown measurable improvements in voter turnout.

Raffensperger’s office cited a 2022 University of Georgia poll that found 99% of voters reported no issues casting their ballots, and a 2024 poll showed 98% of voters experiencing no problems at the polls.

The Justice Department did not respond to an inquiry from The Daily Signal for this report.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
