Hamas, the terrorist organization that raped, murdered, and kidnapped over a thousand Israeli civilians on October 7, called Trump’s proposal for the United States to take over Gaza a “crime against humanity.”
“What President Trump stated about his intention to displace the residents of the Gaza Strip outside it and the United States’ control over the Strip by force is a crime against humanity,” a senior Hamas official told Fox News.
The official called Trump’s actions an “interference in a topic which should not be of his concern.”
During a Tuesday press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump proposed a plan to relocate all Gazans to places outside the Strip. Then, Trump said the United States would be responsible for dismantling unexploded bombs and other weapons, demolishing and leveling destroyed buildings, and creating an economic development zone that would “supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”
“The U.S. will take over the Gaza strip and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said. “We’ll own it.”
Trump said he envisions the “world’s people,” including some Palestinians, living in Gaza after it is rebuilt.
“I think the potential in the Gaza Strip is unbelievable and I think representatives from all over the world will be there,” he said.
He added that Gaza could become the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Netanyahu said Trump’s idea is worth paying attention to.
“I think it’s something that could change history and I think it is worth pursuing this avenue,” Netanyahu said.
Trump’s justification was the horrendous living conditions from over a year of war in Gaza, which Trump has described as a “demolition site.”
“I mean there is hardly a building standing and the ones that are going to collapse,” Trump said. “You can’t live in Gaza right now and I think we need another location and I think it should be a location that is going to make people happy. You look over the decades and it’s all death in Gaza. This has been happening for years. It’s all death.”
Instead, Hamas called for the reconstruction of Gaza while Palestinians remain in the Strip.
“We demand urgent regional and international action to put an end to these malicious plans, because any attempts to implement such plans will destabilize security in the region and beyond.”
The official also said that “any manipulation in implementing the agreement may cause it to collapse,” referring to the ongoing fragile ceasefire agreement.
