Here’s Why Democrats’ Feeble Attempts to Moderate Are Doomed to Fail

Has anyone ever told you to lighten up and be more genuine? The best way to connect with people is to be yourself.
Perhaps, instead of constantly railing about how President Donald Trump is “Hitler,” for example, you could enjoy a bite to eat at a local restaurant.
Rather than hoisting a rainbow flag and marching for the cause of letting men invade women’s spaces, you could go get a drink and watch the big game.
Instead of repeating the same tired talking points about how driving cars is going to bring about this ever-elusive Armageddon of climate change, you could go to church and learn that there’s nothing new under the sun.
This isn’t just good advice for life. It’s salient political strategy for a Democratic Party that seems to live on an entirely different planet from commonsense Americans.
Don’t take my word for it. These recommendations come from “several dozen Democratic political operatives and elected officials” who realize that Trump’s presidential election victory in November revealed deep problems with their party. Politico’s Adam Wren got a copy of the recommendations these Democrats came up with, and they’re surprisingly astute.
According to the recommendations (developed in collaboration with the center-left organization Third Way), Democrats have become obsessed with “ideological purity tests,” and should push back “against far-left staffers and groups that exert a disproportionate influence on policy and messaging.”
The document encourages Democrats to “embrace patriotism, community, and traditional American imagery.” It recommends Democrats “show up in unfriendly media spaces and engage with voters outside traditional Democratic strongholds.” It urges candidates to “get out of elite circles and into real communities (e.g., tailgates, gun shows, local restaurants, churches).”
This last recommendation strikes me as particularly humorous, as it amounts to the admonition, “Get a life!” or rather, “Get a life the American people aren’t suspicious of.” Going to a five-star Michelin restaurant with Alex Soros doesn’t count. You should actually dine alongside the people you intend to rule—oh sorry, I mean “govern.”
These are very good ideas if the party wants to leave its woke faculty lounge cul-de-sac and win back the trust of the American people.
Unfortunately for the Democrats, their party is doomed not to follow these recommendations.
Again, don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what Adam Wren, the Politico reporter who unearthed the memo, told The Daily Signal’s Tony Kinnett on “Top News in 10” on Monday night:
In the 24 hours since I published this, the DNC is sort of very sensitive about this memo, because they want to distance themselves from the results of this memo. They would stress that this was done through no affiliation with them. They’re saying that this is not a direction that they want to go in.
Also on Monday night, Senate Democrats rejected a golden opportunity to prove their willingness to move to the center. Republicans introduced a commonsense bill that would prevent males from competing in women’s sports.
This isn’t a partisan issue, except on Capitol Hill. Americans viscerally understand that when Riley Gaines has to swim against William “Lia” Thomas—a biological male who said he identifies as female—that’s an un-level playing field.
A New York Times/Ipsos poll published in January found that 79% of respondents oppose allowing men to compete in women’s sports. Even 67% of Democrats agreed—and that comes after the Times used language favorable to the transgender movement when asking the question (“Thinking about transgender female athletes—meaning athletes who were male at birth but who currently identify as female—do you think they should or should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports?”).
Of course, that bipartisan support didn’t make it into policy, however. In the Senate, bills like this require a 60-vote majority to end debate and bring the measure to a full vote. Even though 51 Republicans voted for the bill, 43 Democrats and two nominal independents who caucus with Democrats voted against it, effectively killing the measure.
Why can’t Democrats take even this small step toward sanity?
One recommendation touches on the heart of the issue. The Third Way document urges Democrats to “reduce far-left influence and infrastructure” and “ban far-left candidate questionnaires and refuse to participate in forums that create ideological purity tests.”
As I point out in my book, “The Woketopus: The Dark Money Cabal Manipulating the Federal Government,” the Left’s dark money network props up a massive influence campaign. Leftist nongovernmental organizations sent staff and policy recommendations into the vast federal bureaucracy under President Joe Biden, and this influence campaign helps explain Biden’s radical policies on climate, gender ideology, “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” and more.
Trump is working overtime to root this woke influence out of the government, but he can’t fully dismantle the Left’s influence campaign—and the Democrats can’t escape the gravitational pull of these NGOs and their puppet-master donors.
Men such as Alex Soros (the son of George Soros who runs the Open Society Foundations) and Eric Kessler (founder of the for-profit company Arabella Advisors, which helps leftist donors influence politics through Arabella’s multiple nonprofits) aren’t going to throw in the towel on woke, and they aren’t going to let Democrats do it, either.
It would be good for the country if America had two sane political parties who could laugh off gender ideology, climate alarmism, and DEI—and go out for a beer together afterward. Unfortunately, that’s just not the world we live in.
You won’t be seeing your local Democratic politician at Chili’s anytime soon, regardless of how important it is for “they/them” to be there.
