Jeremy Renner said he was full of gratitude as he marked the anniversary of his “ReBirthday,” two years after he almost died in a snow plow accident near his Nevada home on January 1, 2023.
In a lengthy post on Wednesday on Instagram, the 53-year-old actor wished everyone a “Happy New Year” and said he was ringing in his second “ReBirthday” after he was nearly crushed under a 14,300-pound snowcat in an accident in 2023. Following the accident, he underwent extensive therapy in order to recover from the accident which left him with more than 30 broken bones.
“I send out my love, respect, and gratitude for the army of people that it took to put me back together again,” Renner captioned his post that included an image of him in the hospital after the accident.
“Thank you to each and every nurse, doctor, first responder … I literally owe you my life,” he added. “All my heart goes out to my beautiful, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbors) who jumped to my aid and endured the chaos for 45 long minutes on the icy asphalt New Years morning. I’m so sorry [for] all the haunting images I imprinted on you all (I’ll spare you all from the meat grinding images ) …”
“My gratitude list is very long … With the amount of love and prayers that flooded in from you all around the world (needing each and everyone of them), my family never leaving my side, with some divine intervention, a bit of luck and a whole lot of miracles … I stand strong again,” the Marvel star continued. “More Open. More Loved. More Connected. And f**king BLESSED to take my next step, to take MY NEXT BREATH. Thank you with every fiber and cell in my body. I love you ALL. #MyNextBreath.”
Renner — who previously took on roles in action-packed thrillers like “Mission Impossible” movies and Marvel’s “Avenger” franchise films — has been open about the life-threatening injuries he sustained in the accident.
During an interview in 2024 with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor recalled how “Not one doctor, early on, said ‘You’re gonna pull through, you’re gonna be able to see again, you’re gonna be able to walk again, you’re gonna be able to breathe right, you’re gonna be able to talk,’” The Hollywood Reporter noted.
“No one gave me anything,” he added. “I think they were all communicating with my family. And I feel like if they didn’t tell me it must have been pretty bleak.”
“The Avengers” star said when he heard there would be limitations to his recovery, it had only fueled him to get back on his feet faster. More than a year after the accident he was able to return to work on the hit TV series “Mayor of Kingstown.”
