Joe Biden’s White House Physician Pleads the Fifth Multiple Times in Autopen Scandal Investigation

Former White House physician Kevin O’Connor pleaded the Fifth Amendment multiple times during his closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.
Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., subpoenaed O’Connor to testify regarding his alleged involvement in covering up former President Joe Biden‘s health and the use of a presidential autopen while in office. The expected hour-long deposition concluded quickly after O’Connor refused to provide any answers.
“I’m going to read the first two questions that were asked. ‘Were you ever told to lie about the president’s health?’ He pleaded the Fifth Amendment. He would not answer that question. The second question, ‘Did you ever believe President Biden was unfit to execute his duty?'” Comer stated to reporters, according to Fox News. “Again, President Biden’s White House physician pleaded the Fifth. This is unprecedented, and I think that this adds more fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up.”
Added Comer later in a post on X, “The American people demand transparency, but Dr. O’Connor would rather conceal the truth.”
O’Connor’s lawyers, David Schertler and Mark MacDougall, released a statement in defense of their client’s refusal to answer questions, citing the physician-patient privilege, which grants O’Connor the right not to disclose any information about his former client.
“We want to emphasize that asserting the Fifth Amendment privilege does not imply that Dr. O’Connor has committed any crime,” the lawyers said in the statement. “In fact, to the contrary, as our Supreme Court has emphasized: ‘One of the Fifth Amendment’s basic functions is to protect innocent men who otherwise might be ensnared by ambiguous circumstances.'”
