Just How Deep Did Biden Administration Corruption Go?

Recovery and rebuilding efforts continue across the southeastern United States in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s devastation last September.

In the breakneck pace of the newscycle since the general election campaigns, one of the most under-covered stories from 2024 is how the Biden administration withheld desperately needed hurricane aid from Trump supporters impacted by the hurricane.

Freshman Rep. Mark Harris, R-N.C., has  been deeply involved in recovery efforts and recently visited affected North Carolina communities with President Donald Trump.

Harris joined “The Signal Sitdown” this week to provide an update on how Trump and Republicans are trying to rectify the wrongs done to hurricane victims by the Biden administration.

As for where things stand now, “they’ve got a long ways to go,” Harris told me. But “the American people have been doing a great job, I feel like, of stepping up and helping. People literally came in from all over the country, offering aid, offering help.”

Without the generous aid and hard work of private citizens, Harris suggested things in western North Carolina would be much worse because of the “nightmare” response from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Biden administration.

“[The] corruption that was uncovered and was exposed really began to bring things to light,” Harris said. “For the federal government, through FEMA in this particular case, to have been so corrupted to avoid helping those who were perceived to have conservative values or even to support President Trump in the upcoming election—that’s almost criminal.”

Other reports have uncovered that FEMA, under the Biden administration, had spent millions on housing illegal immigrants in hotels throughout the country, rather than having that money ready for disaster relief.

What’s more, Harris told me that while some illegal migrants have enjoyed long stays in these hotels, FEMA has wanted to push out hurricane victims from their temporary living situations. “Just in the last month or so, people were being told, ‘Well, you’re going to have to leave your hotel where FEMA had put them up in a place, and they were told, ‘Well, you’re going to have to leave.’”

That “was not acceptable,” Harris continued. “You couldn’t just drop people and tell them that your support or your help is gone. And then, boy, you add that to $59 million that has been spent by FEMA to put, again, illegal aliens in luxury hotels? And that was after President Trump’s order that this stuff would stop.”

Harris accompanied Trump on his trip to North Carolina shortly after the inauguration.

“When I got the call on the Thursday night before we would go and … was asked if I would like to fly down with the president to Asheville, I thought I’ve only got two questions: Where do I have to be, and what time do I need to be there?” Harris said.

When Trump and the delegation arrived in North Carolina, “there were families that were there,” he said. “Even in that motorcade driving in, the number of people that were lining the streets with signs, just so thankful for President Trump being there. I mean, it was amazing.”

“It was cold and it was cloudy, and, yet, there these people were,” the North Carolina lawmaker recalled. “many of them who had lost a great deal over the last several months through that storm. But they believed help was on the way, and it was.”

Some of the hurricane victims that Trump and lawmakers met with believed they were “not going to make it,” as the storm raged.

“One of them actually described writing a letter to his family that he was going to leave behind, hoping his family would be able to find it because he didn’t think he was going to get out alive, Harris said, adding: “And that was the case with all the families. They didn’t think they would make it out alive, but all of them to a one talked about by God’s grace, they did survive and that they were there.”

The president’s trip put their hearts at ease. “Just to see President Trump embrace these people, to see the hope that he brought to them, the encouragement that he brought to them,” Harris got the feeling that “this was going to be different.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
