Mamdani Leads NYC Mayoral Race, Polls Find

Zohran Mamdani, the self-proclaimed democratic socialist mayoral candidate of New York City, leads the race with 41% of the vote in a recent poll, The New York Post reported.
Mamdani, 33, a New York state assemblyman, beat former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic mayoral primary in a stunning turn of events June 24, but Cuomo is now running as an independent.
According to the recent poll, Cuomo drew 26% of the vote, while incumbent Mayor Eric Adams garnered 16%. Adams, a former Democrat, is also running as an independent. Curtis Sliwa, the Republican candidate, trailed with 10%.
The poll surveyed slightly more than 1,000 voters between June 30 and July 2.
Another poll, this one conducted by Slingshot Strategies, conducted between July 2 and 6, showed Mamdani with 35% of the vote, Cuomo with 25%, Sliwa with 14%, and Adams with 11%.
The Daily Wire reported that Adams has a dismal job-approval rating of just 28% with a 62% disapproval rating. Despite allegations of sexual assault against him, Cuomo outperformed Adams, with 44% viewing him favorably and 46% unfavorably.
While the black community no longer favors Adams, 35% of blacks surveyed say they back Mamdani, The Daily Wire reported. Cuomo drew 32% of black support, while Adams—who is black—garnered just 16%.
Among the Democrats and Democrats-turned-independents running, Adams garnered the most Republican support with 26%, while Mamdani got just 7%. The GOP candidate, Sliwa, led the demographic with 43%.
The Daily Signal previously reported that Vice President JD Vance said he thinks Mamdani has built his support by forming an elitist coalition with a foundation rooted in shared hatreds within the radical Left.
According to a post on the social media platform X, Mamdani says his vision is to “freeze the rent, make buses fast + free, and deliver universal child care” if elected.
