Nigel Farage Draws Inspiration From Trump to ‘Make Britain Great Again’ in UK Elections

Nigel Farage, leader of the Brexit effort and a member of the United Kingdom Parliament, predicted his country would follow the trend of the U.S. electorate and “Make Britain great again.”

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, on Thursday, Farage, the leader of the Reform UK Party, noted that the United States and United Kingdom tend to follow each other’s trends. 

“American trends we tend to follow. You have occasionally followed our trends. You gave us woke. We gave you Prince Harry. You keep him,” Farage said to laughter from the audience. 

On a more serious matter, he compared the British vote to withdraw from the European Union in 2016 with Donald Trump‘s victory that followed months later.

“In 2016, we delivered a political thunderbolt across the whole world, and it was called Brexit,” Farage said. “I believe that a wave across the Atlantic helped Donald Trump win the presidency in November 2016.”

Looking ahead to the British Parliament elections this year, he said the wave is going the other way, from the U.S. to Britain—following the trend of Trump’s November election victory. 

“I am now leading Reform UK, and we are now topping every opinion poll in Britain,” Farage said. “We are going to win the next general election and save our country.”

Farage was previously the leader of the UK Independence Party and served in the European Parliament, where his coalition helped build momentum for the “Brexit” movement for Britain to withdraw from the European Union. 

He explained that this victory was a long fight. 

“The whole British establishment wanted us to be members of the globalist European Union,” he said. “It was almost me alone saying this is a crazy idea. We want control of our sovereignty, our borders, and our identity back with the British people.”

But he said it’s not comparable to what Trump has faced in the United States. 

“For daring to say that, they made my life hell. But the tough times I went through are nothing compared to what they put Donald J. Trump through,” Farage said. “It went on for year after year after year. Endless court cases, mainstream media abuse, harassment of his family, debanking from some of the worst financial institutions, assassination attempts.”

Farage talked about the decline of free speech in not only his country, but throughout Europe. 

“In my country, you can’t say anything or you might get put in prison. We’re getting poorer. Everybody is miserable,” he said. “We’re being governed by a left-wing, awful government. Suddenly, a post-Nov. 5 America is optimistic. It’s upbeat. It’s the beginning of a golden age in America.”

He praised Vice President JD Vance’s speech last week at the Munich Security Conference calling for European allies to support free speech and speaking about the need for immigration control.

“I think we can say with some confidence that the American VP is going to be a major part of global politics. I loved it. Did you enjoy his speech?” Farage asked, with the crowd roaring its reply. “They [the European leaders at the security conference] didn’t. They absolutely hated it. It rather reminded me of my time in the European Parliament a decade ago.”
