‘SHOTS FIRED’: University Police Confirm Shooting at Campus Hosting Charlie Kirk Event

The Utah Valley University Police Department confirmed to The Daily Signal Wednesday that shots had been fired on campus.

“We have had shots fired on campus,” a police spokeswoman told The Daily Signal. “We’re asking everyone to shelter in place.”

University police confirmed at 12:48 p.m. Mountain that a suspect is in custody.

Sources told CNN that Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, had been injured in the shooting at the university in Orem, Utah.

An unknown assailant opened fire at Kirk’s event as he conducted a question and answer session with students Wednesday.

“Shots fired at [Charlie Kirk] event at Utah Valley University,” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, posted on X. “This is a good time to pray.”

“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot,” President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social. “A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

Vice President JD Vance posted on X, “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also posted, “Prayers for Charlie Kirk. An incredible Christian, American, and human being. May the healing hand of Jesus Christ be upon him.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., posted, “Pray for him!”

Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said he spoke with Kirk before the event.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which puts mainstream conservative and Christian groups on a “hate map” with Ku Klux Klan chapters, added Turning Point USA to the map this summer.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
