The Daily Signal Names Elizabeth Mitchell as White House Correspondent

The Daily Signal announced Thursday the appointment of Elizabeth Mitchell as its White House correspondent.

Mitchell, who joined The Daily Signal in June 2024, will lead the news organization’s coverage of the White House and executive branch. She will cover press briefings, presidential events, and policy initiatives, while continuing to provide analysis of executive branch activities for The Daily Signal’s growing audience.

“Elizabeth’s sharp reporting skills and strong track record of breaking news make her an excellent choice for this crucial role,” said Keith Koffler, managing editor of The Daily Signal. “Her experience covering politics and policy issues will serve our audience well as she reports from the White House.”

Mitchell originally joined The Daily Signal as one of its inaugural journalism fellows last year, quickly demonstrating her reporting capabilities and ability to secure exclusives. She also served as a co-host of “The Daily Signal Podcast,” conducting interviews and reporting on the day’s top news.

Prior to joining The Daily Signal’s staff, Mitchell served as editor-in-chief of The Hillsdale Collegian and completed internships at Fox News Digital and the Washington Free Beacon, where she conducted investigative reporting and covered current events. She also was a freelance news reporter at the Franklin News Foundation.

Mitchell is a graduate of Hillsdale College, where she was named to the dean’s list multiple times and received the Dow Journalism Scholarship. She was also selected as a George Washington fellow during her academic career.

The Daily Signal hired its first White House correspondent in 2016 when Fred Lucas joined the team after serving in a similar role for The Blaze. Lucas covered Presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden, serving as a White House pool reporter and traveling on Air Force 2 to cover Vice President Mike Pence in 2020.

In August 2023, at the direction of press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House revoked Lucas’ credentials along with more than 440 other journalists. Current press secretary Karoline Leavitt restored their access at her first briefing in January, which Lucas attended.

Lucas will continue to oversee investigative reporting in his current role with The Daily Signal.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
