The Internet Decided Reese Witherspoon And Kate Winslet Weren’t Speaking. Here’s What Happened.

Reese Witherspoon shut down rumors that she and actress Kate Winslet weren’t speaking after the internet decided that the two stars had some kind of “falling out.”

It all started with comments the “Legally Blonde” star made during an interview with her costar Will Ferrell for their movie “You’re Cordially Invited” for People magazine.

Speaking about a time when one of the stars wished they hadn’t given a speech, Witherspoon recalled being asked by someone she called a “proper” actress if she would present an award to the unnamed star. Reese said she agreed, but mistakenly thought it was more like a roast for her — but it wasn’t.

“This friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award,” the actress said. “But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast.”

“So I got up and I roasted her,” she added. “The tone was British and elegant and classy. I’m still embarrassed about it. We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore.”

“I think she doesn’t like me anymore,” Witherspoon continued. “I thought it was so funny, and it was just — I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well.”

So, the internet decided to do some digging and determined that it must’ve happened when the actress presented Winslet with a BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Award in 2007, the outlet noted.

“The Morning Show” star caught wind of the speculation and decided to make clear that she and Winslet were in fact still friends, and it wasn’t the actress she mentioned in the interview.

“Hey guys … just spoke to my very dear friend for years, Kate W. We laughed about this stupidity,” Witherspoon said in her Instagram Stories. “Please do not believe the internet. We are good friends and have never had any falling out.”

In another post, the Oscar winner added, “This is completely UNTRUE …so silly!”
