The Left Can’t Tell If They Hate Femininity or Just Conservative Women

The New York Times, which long ago gave up any pretense of objectivity, has once again reminded us what truly keeps the Left up at night: beautiful, confident, conservative women.
In a recent style column that reads more like an entry from The Babylon Bee, a writer wrings her hands over a horrifying cultural crisis—no, not the invasion of our southern border or the collapse of American family formation, but the possibility that wearing a sheath dress might make her look like a Trump supporter.
Yes, according to the Times, wearing a flattering dress, brushing your hair, and maybe putting on some mascara now constitutes a “MAGA aesthetic.” Heaven forbid a woman look—brace yourself—feminine.
The article helpfully outlines how to avoid such tragic associations. Lose the heels. Ditch the makeup. Go “messy.” Wear black to signal you’re “intellectual” or a “rebel.” In short: make yourself intentionally unattractive so as not to be confused with one of those dreaded Trump women—Melania, Ivanka, Kristi Noem, Karoline Leavitt, Alina Habba—all of whom are evidently guilty of the high crime of being beautiful and conservative.
The Times calls this look “cartoonish femininity.” But what it really despises is unashamed femininity, especially when paired with traditional values. The modern Left claims to celebrate women’s empowerment—unless, of course, that woman votes Republican, loves her country, and owns lipstick.
This isn’t a style critique. It’s ideological policing. The Left understands that culture shapes politics. And they know that feminine, confident, happy conservative women are kryptonite to the feminist narrative that tells young girls their only path to fulfillment is a cubicle, a protest sign, and a therapist on speed dial.
The real “Mar-a-Lago face” they fear isn’t lip gloss and lashes—it’s the smile of a woman who knows exactly who she is, what she believes, and isn’t afraid to live it out loud.
So here’s a style tip for my liberal friends: if you’re terrified of looking like a conservative woman, maybe you should ask yourself why she looks so put together—and you look like you got dressed in the dark at a gender studies seminar.
Because it’s not the dress that’s doing the heavy lifting. It’s the woman wearing it.
