Trump Admin Welcomes ‘New Media’ Into White House Press Corps

The White House is making room for “new media” in the press room, welcoming nontraditional, news-related content producers who can directly ask questions to the press secretary and other administration officials.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gave her first press briefing of President Donald Trump’s second term on Tuesday and announced a “new media seat” for bloggers, podcasters, social media influencers, and others to apply.

“The Trump White House will speak to all media outlets and personalities, not just the legacy media who are seated in this room, because according to recent polling from Gallup, Americans’ trust in mass media has fallen to a record low,” Leavitt said.

“Millions of Americans, especially young people, have turned from traditional television outlets and newspapers to consume their news from podcasts, blogs, social media, and other independent outlets,” she continued. “It’s essential to our team that we share President Trump’s message everywhere and adapt this White House to the new media landscape in 2025.”

Leavitt’s announcement coincides with a slate of new outlets gaining representation in the press briefing room under Trump, including The Daily Wire’s new White House correspondent, Mary Margaret Olohan.

Leavitt announced that the Trump White House would restore the media credentials of 440 journalists whose access was stripped from them by the previous Biden administration. In addition, the press secretary would be devoting a seat on the front row of the briefing room, usually occupied by press secretary staff, to “new media” who apply and are accepted to join the White House press corps.

“We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers, and content creators to apply for credentials to cover this White House,” she said.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
