Trump Announces Support for ‘No Tax Dollars for Riots’ Legislation

President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he fully supported a California Republican congressman’s “No Tax Dollars for Riots” legislation.
The president wrote on Truth Social that Rep. Kevin Kiley’s proposal “should be passed immediately,” calling for his administration not to pay “ANY money to these radicalized groups.”
The president added, “They get paid to incite riots, burn down or destroy a city, then come back to the trough to get money to help rebuild it. NO MORE MONEY!!!”
Kiley, R-Calif., introduced the legislation this week in response to the violent protests that occurred in Los Angeles in June, with protesters upset about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducting raid operations.
The president responded to the riots by deploying the National Guard to give support to ICE agents and protect federal buildings.
During his floor speech, Kiley accused The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), a left-leaning group advocating for immigrants’ rights, of receiving $34 million through state and federal funding.
The representative said in a video posted to social platform X that the nonprofit “played a central role in organizing the riots, providing real-time locations to the rioters of where federal officers could be found.”
Kiley added, “Several of these federal officers were subsequently assaulted with bricks and Molotov cocktails.”
CHIRLA did not immediately respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment.
“My bill,” Kiley added, “will assure that an organization like this, whose officers are convicted of assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers, or of organizing, promoting, encouraging, participating in, or carrying on a riot … loses their nonprofit status and is ineligible for federal funding going forward.”
An unnamed CHIRLA spokesperson previously stated on June 8 that the coalition had not participated in the violence that took place in Los Angeles but had sent “legal observers to immigration courts and detention centers,” according to the New York Post.
The Daily Signal’s Tyler O’Neil reported that the nonprofit received $34 million in government grants between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023.
“This is a common-sense step that will prevent the sort of lawlessness that we saw in Los Angeles from reappearing in our state or elsewhere in the country,” Kiley concluded.
