Trump Brings Mother of Slain Child to Tears With Executive Order

President Donald Trump brought the mother of a child believed to have been killed by illegal immigrants to tears Tuesday night during his speech to a joint session of Congress.
Alexis Nungray lost her 12-year-old daughter, Jocelyn, on June 17, 2024. Two illegal aliens from Venezuela allegedly lured Jocelyn under a bridge near her home in Houston and, according to court documents, “took her pants off, tied her up, and killed her, then threw her body into the bayou.” The two have been arrested and charged in connection with the crime.
“Alexis, I promised that we would always remember your daughter, your magnificent daughter,” Trump said, looking up at Nungray, who was seated in the upper level of the House Gallery as Trump spoke.
“Earlier tonight,” Trump continued, “I signed an order keeping my word to you.”
The president said that because Jocelyn loved animals and nature, he signed an executive order renaming the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge in Galveston Bay, where Jocelyn lived, to the Jocelyn Nungaray National Refuge.
“I formally renamed that refuge in loving memory of your beautiful daughter, Jocelyn,” Trump told the mother and others assembled for the speech.
Nungray mouthed the words “Thank you,” to the president as he held up the executive order and members of Congress stood and applauded.
Trump used his speech to highlight the work his administration has done at the border during the first six weeks of his administration.
In February, there were 8,326 illegal-alien encounters at the southern border, compared with the same month in previous years: 189,913 in 2024; 156,630 in 2023; and 166,010 in 2022, according to Customs and Border Protection.
In addition, arrests of illegal aliens have risen 627% under the Trump administration, compared with the Biden administration.
Trump also highlighted his executive order designating members of Tren de Aragua, MS-13, and other illegal-alien criminal organizations as domestic terrorists.
These criminal illegal aliens are “now officially in the same category as ISIS, and that’s not good for them,” he said.
“Every last one” of these criminal illegal aliens “will be rounded up and forcibly removed from our country, or if they are too dangerous, put in jails, standing trial in this country because we don’t want them to come back ever.”
