Trump Deserves the Nobel Peace Prize More Than Obama Ever Did

President Donald Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his second term actions as president.

That was the take from The Daily Signal’s Executive Editor Rob Bluey on a CNN panel that drew chuckles from the reliably liberal commentators.

I agree, and not just because Rob is my boss. By the public standards of the Norwegian Nobel Committee itself, Trump is more than deserving. I’ll get to that in a bit.

On Wednesday, Trump announced that Israel had agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, possibly initiating the beginning of the end of a war launched by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023. This is just Trump’s latest accomplishment in the Middle East.

Former Trump ally turned critic Elon Musk had to give the president credit.

The ceasefire in Gaza is just the latest development in what is becoming a long list of foreign policy accomplishments for Trump that suggest he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump has been open about his desire to win the award. He wrote in a mid-June Truth Social post a long list of accomplishments he says deserve Nobel consideration.

The list includes brokering the end of a conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda. This war had been ongoing for over 30 years and had claimed the lives of an estimated six million people.

“This is a historic moment for two African states eager to transition into a new era of stability and prosperity, and an opportunity to signal to the world where the continent’s future is focused,” Ned Rauch-Mannino, a visiting national security fellow at The Heritage Foundation, wrote for the Hill. “This agreement is also evidence of where President Trump is focused: facilitating the mechanics and politics to end ‘endless wars’ and welcome an era of peace for those who want it.”

The deal was secured in typical Trumpian fashion. He signed an economic agreement with both countries that secured U.S. interests in the region, gave them a reason to continue cooperating, while edging out China, which has made major inroads in Africa. Wins all around.

Ending a three-decade old war wasn’t even Trump’s biggest accomplishment in terms of world peace.

He brokered a deal between India and Pakistan, ending a conflict that threatened to spiral into a much larger war between two nuclear armed powers.

Pakistan gave credit to Trump and said he was deserving of a Nobel Prize, announcing in an official statement that at “a moment of heightened regional turbulence,” Trump demonstrated statesmanship and rapidly de-escalated a brewing conflict.

“This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue,” the government of Pakistan noted, according to Time magazine. The country formally recommended Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Was this just flattery from a country that wants to remain in the good graces of the president of the world’s preeminent superpower? Maybe. But that doesn’t mean what they wrote isn’t true.

And Trump continues to try to secure peace in other regions too. His attempt to bring an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine has been disappointing, but he continues to make overtures for peace.

Now, one can say that Trump’s record isn’t unblemished. After all, he did order a U.S. military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities at the end of the swiftly concluded “12-day war” between Israel and Iran.

But even that, one can argue, builds his case for a Nobel Prize.

You see, back in 2009 the Nobel Peace Prize committee decided to give their award to newly elected President Barack Obama. This despite the fact that Obama had accomplished virtually nothing other than apologize for being an American around the world.

Here’s what the committee said at the time:

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Well, by those standards, Trump clearly qualifies and then some. He even stopped the proliferation of nuclear weapons with his strike on the nuclear program of one of the world’s foremost terror-exporting states before securing an immediate ceasefire.

The case for Trump is an easy one, actually. Yet, he almost certainly won’t get the award. The Nobel Peace Prize is the plaything of, by, and for global liberal elites. It didn’t matter if Obama had accomplished nothing. He was a president they could dream on. Trump is a meanie who wants to make a peace deal with bad old Russia.

“You don’t negotiate deals with your friends,” a man once said. “You negotiate them with your enemies.”

Oh well, that’s all forgotten now that Trump is back in the White House.

But in the end, it doesn’t really matter.

Peace and prosperity, another century of greatness for the United States will be good enough a reward for Trump that I suspect will be far better appreciated by the American people than the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
